The CHP Castaic Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility recently received a request for assistance from a partner agency concerning an unusual and potentially hazardous issue involving a commercial vehicle. The trailer was missing a set of wheels giving the term “Air Ride” a new meaning. Surprisingly, the driver showed little concern and continued trying to load the trailer with product, disregarding the obvious dangers. When the Commercial Officer arrived on scene, he quickly identified several serious safety violations and immediately placed the truck out of service to prevent further risk to the public.

Commercial vehicle safety remains a top priority for the CHP. Unsafe vehicles on the road can pose significant risks not only to their operators but to everyone sharing the roadway. We urge members of the public to stay vigilant! If you notice a commercial vehicle that appears unsafe or out of compliance, please do not hesitate to contact emergency personnel for assistance. Your awareness and quick action can help prevent accidents and keep our community safe.

Today’s trucker appreciation event was a success! A big thank‑you to the Walmart team for rolling up with a grill and serving fresh hamburgers to every driver who stopped by. Cummins, Alvys and the California Trucking Association also joined us to show gratitude for the men and women who keep our highways moving. We enjoyed handing out meals and hearing your stories. Safe travels and thank you for all you do!

See the issue here? 👀 This air line is held together with a worm clamp instead of the required DOT-approved fitting. ❌ Quick fixes like this may seem convenient, but they compromise braking systems and put lives at risk.

Air hoses must use proper crimped/swaged fittings — anything less is an Out-of-Service violation under federal and state law.

Would you trust your brakes to a shortcut like this?

🚛💥 This tire didn’t just go flat — it blew out and came off the bead.
Blowouts like this usually happen from:

Underinflation (too little air = heat buildup)

Overloading

Sidewall damage left unchecked

👀 Signs you can catch before disaster:
✔️ Cracks or bulges in the sidewall
✔️ Uneven or low tread
✔️ Visible cords or deep cuts
✔️ Low tire pressure

A few minutes with a tire gauge and flashlight can stop a roadside nightmare before it starts. Stay ahead of the blowout — your rig, your load, and everyone on the road depends on it.

Hazardous materials inspections go beyond the basics:

✅Inspectors confirm Emergency Response Information is in place.

✅Drivers must carry proper training and endorsements.

✅Loads are reviewed for compatibility and securement.

Every detail matters because HazMat inspections protect drivers, families, and first responders alike.

🚨 Remember: if it’s HazMat, it’s high priority.

When hub oil leaks onto brake linings, it’s like coating your stopping power in grease. The brakes can’t grip the way they should, meaning it takes much longer to stop — and in an emergency, that extra distance can be the difference between a close call and a collision.

The recommended fix? Replace the contaminated brake linings and repair the hub oil seal to stop the leak at the source. Cleaning alone might not restore full safety — once soaked, those brake linings can’t perform the way they were designed to.

Your brakes are only as strong as your weakest line.
This emergency air hose feeds the truck’s brake system—and that bulge is a warning sign you can’t ignore.

💡 Pro tip: Run your hands along the hose during pre-trip. If you feel a soft spot, blister, or crack—replace it before hitting the road.
