Meet George Stagi! This week marks his final shift before summer as a crossing guard at Gualt Elementary School. For the past nine years, George has served as both a crossing guard and an SCPD volunteer.

When asked about his favorite part of being a crossing guard, George said, “the people…keeping everybody safe is important to me. Also, in this role, I talk to so many community members. I got to know so many parents and kids, where we grew into more than people passing by in the morning, but friends.”

Thank you, George, for all that you do for the community! Keep an eye for him next school year at his regular crossing guard and Morrissey and Pacheco!

This week, we observe National Police Week — a time to honor the men and women of the City of Santa Cruz who show up every day with courage, integrity, and an unwavering sense of duty.

It is also a week of remembrance — a solemn opportunity to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community. Their bravery, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

To our officers and the families who stand beside them: we are deeply grateful for everything you give.

We’re hiring Public Safety Dispatchers!

If you’re looking for meaningful work where every shift matters, this is it. Our next academy is planned for early October, and we’re accepting applications now.

This role is fast-paced, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. As part of the hiring process, candidates will complete an online simulation that walks through real-world call scenarios. It’s designed to assess multitasking, typing, memory, and how you perform under pressure. Just as important, it gives you a realistic preview of what the job actually feels like.

We’re a values-driven organization built on service, excellence, and teamwork. One thing we consistently hear from applicants and new hires is that our team environment stands out. People choose to come here because of it, and they stay because of it.

If you’re ready to be part of something that truly makes a difference, we’d love to see your application. Click here to apply online. https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/scr911/jobs/5327375/public-safety-dispatcher-i?pagetype=jobOpportunitiesJobs
