Join us for Week Without Driving 2026 from Oct. 1-8 as Cruzin’ Together Santa Cruz County brings our community together to explore transportation accessibility, mobility, and connection.

This regional initiative encourages community members to experience how transportation barriers impact many residents every day, including older adults, youth, people with disabilities, and transit-dependent community members.

Help shape the future of walking and biking in Capitola!

The City of Capitola is developing its first Active Transportation Plan—and they want to hear from the people who live, work, visit and travel through the community.

Active transportation—walking, biking, scooting and rolling—can help make our communities safer, healthier and more connected. But good transportation planning starts with understanding what people experience every day.

Where do you feel unsafe or uncomfortable walking or biking? Where would you like to be able to walk, bike or roll more easily?

The Santa Cruz County roadside emergency call box system is currently in the process of being decommissioned. Until recently, the RTC managed a network of approximately 65 roadside call boxes located on State Routes 1, 9, 17, 129, and 152.

Roadside call box usage in Santa Cruz County has declined significantly as motorists increasingly rely on cell phones and in-vehicle communication systems. Given improved countywide cellular coverage, ongoing maintenance challenges, and limited benefit to motorists relative to program cost, continued operation of the system is no longer practical.

The call boxes are no longer in service and should not be relied upon to request emergency or roadside assistance. Motorists requiring emergency assistance should call 911.

🌊 Join the San Vicente - Waddell Coastal Resilience Community Workshop to help make the North Coast more resilient to climate change!

The San Vicente and Waddell Coastal Resilience project focuses on climate adaptation along Highway 1 and the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line, near Davenport and Big Basin State Park. These transportation corridors are facing growing risks from sea level rise, severe storms, and coastal flooding. The goal of the project is to protect this critical infrastructure while restoring nearby marsh habitats.

At the workshop, the team will present recent technical findings on shoreline changes and flood risks. Most importantly, you will have the chance to ask questions, share your concerns, and help shape potential design ideas for the future.
