Mushroom Foraging Walk for PCS Alumni

Randy Garrett, PCS math teacher, is once again hosting his wonderful Mushroom Foraging Walk for PCS Alumni. This time we will also have two superstar alum faculty to join: Hal Hansen and Darrell Steely!

The event will take place on Saturday the 20th December 2021, departing from the PCS car park at 9am. In previous years, the hike has taken approximately 3 hours and will be followed up by lunch at a local venue.

Dress in layers for foresting adventuring! Lunch is not subsidized. (We are a public school after all.)

Tutoring with Sriji is available to PCS students!

My name is Srija Kethidi and I have the unique opportunity to help out as a Tutor at PCS! I am currently a senior majoring in Neuroscience at UC Santa Cruz so I’ll be able to help out with any STEM-related questions and Spanish! Like all of our wonderful faculty at PCS (and as a student myself), I completely understand that Online Learning can be difficult and confusing at times and that’s why I’m here to help make learning fun!

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00-10:00 am. You can access Zoom info on Canvas annoucements.

I will do my best to help or find a peer tutor who can help you!

We are looking forward to hosting the next networking event for our 9th-grade parents on Wednesday, January 27 at 6:30 pm.

Lauren will answer some of our questions about Advanced Placement (AP) classes and exams such as:

What are the advantages of our students choosing AP classes and taking the tests?

Do students who get high scores on their AP exams usually skip the intro-level in these subject(s) when they go to college?

How long are the AP tests for History, English, Science, Math, etc.

What is the current format of the AP tests (multiple-choice, essay, etc.)

Does a low score on an AP test weigh negatively on their student record?

What's the scoring for AP's? Will colleges only accept high scores?

Is taking classes at the local community college during high school also an option to get college credit and strengthen a transcript?

Will PCS be offering an AP Boot Camp for incoming Sophomores in early August, as it has done in the past?

How much do the AP tests cost? Are there other costs to consider?

How do APs figure into weighted vs. unweighted GPAs in college admissions?
