County of Santa Cruz Cannabis Licensing

County of Santa Cruz Cannabis Licensing The County has established a licensing program to regulate our local cannabis industry and protect public health, safety, and our environment.

The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors has provided a means for regulating the cannabis industry in a manner which balances the needs of medical patients and their caregivers, and adults over the age of 21 interested in recreational use, while promoting the health, safety and welfare of residents and businesses within the unincorporated territory of Santa Cruz County. The Cannabis Licensing Of

fice was originally formed to implement the Medical Ma*****na Regulation and Safety Act (MMRSA), which was approved by the State Legislature and signed into law by the Governor in 2015 (see Assembly Bills 243 and 266, and Senate Bill 643) and create a licensing and regulatory framework for medical cannabis. With the passage of Proposition 64, Adult Use of Ma*****na Act (AUMA) in November 2016, the Cannabis Licensing Office has also taken on the task of developing local regulations to implement AUMA. Commercial operators will need to be licensed by both the County and the State. Contact us if you have questions about licensing or visit our website for further information. http://www.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/cannabislicensingoffice.aspx

The Coastal Commission voted yesterday (July 12th) to approve the amendments to the County's Local Coastal Program, which will allow cannabis licensing and use permit approval in the Coastal Zone. This means that we can now process permit and license applications throughout unincorporated Santa Cruz County.

The process still begins with the Pre-Application consultation, so check the Cannabis Licensing Office website at http://www.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/CannabisLicensingOffice/ApplicationResources.aspx to review the list of Pre-App requirements.

We sadly say goodbye to CLO team member and force-of-nature Loretta Moreno. She leaves us to work with John Laird in the California Natural Resources Agency, but graces us with a legacy to be proud of. We wish her well and thank her for her dedication and hard work in getting this program off the ground.
