New in the Digital Scholarship Commons: USB Microphones for one step audio recording. Students, faculty, and staff can now check out a Blue Yeti microphone for use in the library or at home.

Podcasting, video narration, and audio recording are now one step easier. Check out a Blue Yeti USB microphone for assignments or other projects. Plug the microphone directly into your computer (or one of the DSCcomputers) and begin recording – no additional steps or pieces required.

The Digital Scholarship Commons also has a designated Podcasting Studio. Reserve space to record an interview or work through your script without echoes.

Need podcast equipment for a class project or just for fun? come to the David Kirk Media Center and use our podcasting room and equipment. There are sound-absorbing panels in the room, and there is podcast recording equipment to check out from Media Center desk, including microphones and a digital audio work station.

Students, faculty, and staff will be able to create podcasts, ring tones, and record music with their own instruments and vocals. Patrons will also be able to bring their own mixes on a USB and remix it with sounds on the computer program or other sounds they create. The equipment can be used in the podcasting room or can be taken out of the library.

Patrons can do a title search for "podcasting equipment" and a list of all the equipment will show up in Cruzcat. The equipment will be bookable (in person at the Media Center desk) and will check out for 4 hours, with an overnight check out option.

A list of the equipment available:

4 C-1 Behringer Microphones with stands; includes the XLR cables
1 PreSonus AudioBox 44vsl
1 AudioBox Quick Start Guide
1 MacBook Pro with GarageBand
1 Macbook Charger
1 Sound Mixer Power Cable
1 Sound Mixer External Power Supply Cable
1 Sound Mixer USB Cable

Library staff is encouraged to check out this equipment for your own podcast-related projects!

Good luck to you all with your finals! Have a fabulous summer.

Beginning Winter Quarter, 2014 the library is running a pilot program to lend a subset of our VHS and DVD collections to undergraduates and University staff. We will assess the pilot once it is complete and decide how to proceed from there.

Why are we doing this?

To support increased access to library resources.
To support UC-wide initiatives toward increased lending of Media Collections.
Because increased library use of any kind benefits everyone.
Because expanding lending would help many courses and paths of study.
