Nature photography plays a big role in protecting plants, wildlife, and landscapes, both locally and globally. We encourage you to explore the natural world with your camera today! We didn’t have to go too far--swipe to see some of the natural beauty in the gardens at The White Building.

April 29 marks the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day 🌲 We rely on trees for oxygen, water, food and their cooling effect on our 🌎. Protecting our forests is everyone’s responsibility.

Some ways to participate on Arbor Day are to plant a tree, clean up your community, donate to a tree-planting organization, take a walk outside, and take steps toward living sustainably.

Join the City of Santa Fe at 1:30pm for a Tree Planting Event hosted by the Parks Division on the Santa Fe Plaza. The event will celebrate the planting of an American elm donated by the Jean Cocteau Cinema and George R.R. Martin. Additionally, Parks staff will install three other trees in the Plaza, and oversee the installation of fresh sod in the turf areas. City staff from Parks and Open Space, Environmental Services, and Water Conservation will be on hand to answer questions about environmental programs regarding trees, water, recycling, and sustainability.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 We always have the health of our planet (and its people!) on our mind as we live our mission to broaden the attainment of the Social Determinants of Health. Earth Day is a great way to act on this mission with our friends and neighbors. Looking for a way to contribute? Santa Fe County is sponsoring planting events across the community in April and May. Native and drought tolerant plants will be planted in five locations to restore natural areas and increase access to green space in our county. These are great events for novices and experts alike: the county will provide all the tools and information you’ll need to make a positive impact.

It’s time to dust off your fiesta attire Santa Fe! We’re looking forward to the return of one of Santa Fe’s most unique traditions: the Baile de Cascarones. For the first time in two years, La Sociedad Folklorica de Santa Fe is hosting this beloved event at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center.

The origins of the Baile de Cascarones is still somewhat a mystery. It is believed that the cascarón was brought to Mexico in the 1860s by Carlota, the wife of Emperor Maximillian I, and were used to celebrate the end of the Lenten season. The confetti-filled eggs were used to invite someone to dance--by breaking the egg over the desired dance partner’s head! The tradition eventually made its way north and evolved into what we experience today: a joyful and colorful fiesta.
