What does agriculture look like in New Mexico? It provides more than 149,000 jobs! New Mexico’s Department of Agriculture and NMSU have a legacy of partnering to build our agriculture workforce. The College of Agriculture at NMSU is an engine for economic and community development in New Mexico. With the New Mexico Opportunity and Lottery Scholarships, there are more options for students from our state to pursue higher education without the barriers of tuition and fees.

Do you remember when the FAA tried to regulate ballooning in Albuquerque earlier this year? Here’s the follow-up: Our state’s tourism officials stepped in to bring the issue to the attention of New Mexico’s congressional delegation and gave balloon industry leaders a voice. The result is the FAA is now leading a cross-organizational task force to explore possible solutions to concerns relating to balloon flights in the Albuquerque area. Keeping New Mexico at the forefront of the hot air ballooning industry is how we are working to advance New Mexico. How does our state ensure our drinking water is safe? New Mexico has over 500 small community water systems. The New Mexico Environmental Department has many programs that focus on protecting the quality of our waters and assuring safe and effective infrastructure for delivering clean water to our communities. Where is the world’s largest intercollegiate rocket engineering competition held? That would be Spaceport America Cup, now in its fifth year at the Las Cruces Convention Center. This past June, Sarah Cooke’s team from NM Tech met with teams from all over the world in this year’s rocket launch competition. Rocket science is big business for New Mexico. Our educational institutions take it seriously, too, by helping students prepare for careers in aerospace engineering. With the New Mexico Opportunity and Lottery Scholarships, there are more options for students from our state to pursue higher education without the barriers of tuition and fees.
