Notice:
Be aware of this latest tactic to scam you and take your money… CARD DECLINED
If you are shopping online and you receive an error or a “Card Declined” message, it may be a new scam.
When scrolling on social media, or after receiving an email offering a free item, or a discount, be extra cautious. When shopping online, it is natural to enter your personal information, including your email, name, address, phone number and your debit or credit card number. These scammers taks that information and sends you a message that your card was declined. You may wonder what the problem is, knowing you have enough funds to make the purchase, and enter another card to complete your transaction. Herein lies the problem. You have just given your information to a company that may be using your card or cards to make fraudulent purchases.
How to AVOID online purchase scams:
Verify you are shopping on a legitimate site. Look closely at the URL, ensure there is https:// in front and that the business name is spelled correctly
Watch out for fake texts, emails and social media advertisements. Verify links before clicking. Exit the social media site and visit the business’s website instead of clicking links
Too Good to Be True usually is. Don’t be fooled by great offers
Do a bit of investigating on the company and the website. Look up customer reviews
Use a credit card as instead of a debit card for online purchases for the added protections offered via your credit card company.
Lastly,
If you feel this has happened to you, contact your financial institution. It is a good idea to turn your cards off and order replacements.
