New Mexico, let's celebrate! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

It's a big day for health care in our state, with both HB99- Medical Malpractice Reform and HB66 - Enhancing student loan repayments for health care workers, taking effect today!

We are optimistic that these new laws will help retain our current providers and attract new ones, so that New Mexicans can finally receive the timely and quality health care that they deserve! πŸ’™πŸ’™

πŸ’²Financial literacyπŸ’² is one of the most important skills that we can teach our students. However, not all students have access to financial literacy courses. In a recent Wall Street Journal column, it's mentioned that most financial literacy classes begin as elective courses, often started by "by one passionate teacher who builds their own curriculum."

In New Mexico, momentum around financial literacy is growing. As of today, 63% of New Mexico students are reached by financial literacy curriculum in either a semester or year-long required course! We are making progress! πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

"We must reach our students early about the importance of financial literacy, as their physical health and mental wellness down the road will depend on it. And let’s face it, when the wants vs. needs lecture comes up from mom or dad, it often doesn’t sink in."

This year, four more states have adopted the Physician Assistant Licensure Compact. These states now have a better chance at receiving federal dollars to support their rural hospitals and clinics.

New Mexico, however, still remains out of this compact, despite efforts to join it during the 2026 legislative session. This puts federal money for our rural health care providers at risk.

: We commend Las Cruces Public Schools for adopting financial literacy as a high school graduation requirement starting in the 2027-2028 academic year as a semester long course! πŸ’ͺπŸ’Έ

Financial literacy is now required to graduate in 55 New Mexico school districts. A major step forward, reaching over 63% of public school students statewide! πŸ«πŸŽ’

It's the last day of April so that means... it's STILL financial literacy month! πŸ’ͺπŸ’Έ

As we close out Financial Literacy Month, we would like to shout out Springer Municipal Schools in Northeast New Mexico for adopting financial literacy as a graduation requirement! Springer joins 53 other schools districts from around the state with this implementation! πŸŽ“πŸŽ“

Students who take a financial literacy course are much better prepared for their financial futures! There are still 35 other districts that have yet to implement this requirement. If your school district is listed below, contact your school board representative and urge them to make financial literacy a graduation requirement!
