If you're an independent or DTS voter, you can simply show up to the polls and request the ballot of one major party of your choice. No re-registering, no changing your party. You can now simply vote. Visit NMVote.org to find the polling location nearest you. Polls close at 7pm. If you encounter any issues when voting, please call 866-OUR-VOTE

Last day to request an absentee ballot is TOMORROW May 19th! If you're an independent/DTS voter and you want to vote from home this year, you'll visit the NM Secretary of State's website and pick which major party's ballot you want under one of the dropdown options. You may return your ballot by mail or you can take it by hand to any polling location and drop it off there.

What is a DTS/independent voter? In New Mexico, when voters are automatically registered to vote, for example at the MVD (motor vehicle department), they're automatically registered as "unafilliated" voters. Meaning you're not registered with any party. Qualified parties in NM include: Democrat, Republican, Green, and Libertarian. If you're not registered with any of these parties, you don't need to worry! In 2025 the NM legislature passed a bill that allows unaffiliated voter (independent/DTS) to vote in primary elections without having to change your voter registration. So head to the polls as early voting has started and make your voice heard!

¿Qué es un votante DTS o independiente? En Nuevo México, cuando los votantes son registrados automáticamente para votar, por ejemplo en el MVD, se registran automáticamente como votantes “sin afiliación”. Esto significa que no están registrados con ningún partido político. Los partidos calificados en Nuevo México incluyen: Demócrata, Republicano, Verde y Libertario. Si no estás registrado con ninguno de estos partidos, ¡no te preocupes! En 2025, la Legislatura de Nuevo México aprobó una ley que permite que los votantes sin afiliación, independientes o DTS, voten en las elecciones primarias sin tener que cambiar su registro de votante. Así que ve a las urnas, la votación anticipada ya comenzó, ¡y haz que tu voz sea escuchada!
