Realistic training scenarios are critical for our firefighters to stay prepared for the moments when seconds matter. Donations like this give our crews the opportunity to train with real vehicles and real-world challenges, helping us better serve our community when you need us most.

🏅 Life Saving Award 🏅

Presented to: David James Gray, Age 7

Today, Santa Fe Fire & Rescue proudly recognizes 7-year-old David James Gray with a Life Saving Award for an extraordinary act of courage, awareness, and quick thinking that helped save the life of his little brother, 4-year-old Caleb Gray.

David recognized that something was wrong when he saw Caleb struggling in the pool. Without hesitation, David acted. He pulled his little brother from the water and immediately got him to safety, allowing lifesaving CPR and emergency medical intervention to begin.

Caleb was transported by ambulance and spent two days in the hospital receiving care. Thanks to the quick actions of David, the intervention of those who provided CPR, and the medical professionals who cared for him, Caleb is now home safe with his family.

At just seven years old, David demonstrated a level of awareness and bravery that deserves to be recognized. He saw a problem, understood that his brother was in danger, and took action when every second mattered.

David isn’t just Caleb’s big brother.

He is Caleb’s hero.

Santa Fe Fire & Rescue is honored to recognize David James Gray for his courage, quick thinking, and lifesaving actions. His story is a powerful reminder that heroes don’t always wear a uniform—and sometimes, the smallest heroes can make the biggest difference.

David, today we celebrate you. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for acting. And most importantly, thank you for helping bring your little brother home.

🍋 100 GALLONS OF LEMONADE… Lord help us! 😂🍋

Gunner’s Lemonade Stand for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is getting REAL!

We just purchased 14 giant canisters of Country Time Lemonade — enough to make approximately 100 gallons of lemonade for August 15!

At this point, if Gunner decides to do this again next year, we may need to have a serious conversation with Country Time Lemonade about a sponsorship. 😂

But as funny as 100 gallons of lemonade sounds, the reason behind all of this means so much more to our family.

Gunner wanted to have a lemonade stand for one simple reason: he wants to help other kids.

Our family has been blessed beyond words by St. Jude. Gunner participates in a clinical trial and study there, and through the appointments, testing, research and care, our family has never received a bill from St. Jude.

We have seen firsthand what happens when people give generously, love their neighbors and choose to help families they may never even meet.

And we believe God calls us to do the same.

Sometimes God gives us opportunities to serve in ways we never expected. Sometimes that opportunity might look like something enormous.

And sometimes… it looks like a 9-year-old boy, a lemonade stand and 100 gallons of Country Time. 💙🍋

We don’t know how much money Gunner will raise that day. But we know that God can do incredible things with a willing heart. If one cup of lemonade helps St. Jude continue its research, helps another child receive treatment, or gives another family hope during one of the hardest seasons of their lives, then every bit of this will have been worth it.

To everyone who has donated, volunteered, shared Gunner’s story, prayed for him, encouraged him, or joined Gunner’s Army — thank you.

We truly believe God has placed some incredible people in Gunner’s life, and we are incredibly grateful for every one of you.

As students return today and tomorrow, Santa Fe Fire & Rescue wants to wish every student, teacher, administrator, bus driver, and staff member a safe, successful, and AMAZING school year!

To our students: Believe in yourself. Be kind. Be curious. Try new things. Make mistakes, learn from them, and never be afraid to ask for help. You have so much potential ahead of you, make this year count!

To our teachers and staff: Thank you for showing up every day to inspire, encourage, teach, and make a difference in the lives of our kids. The impact you make reaches far beyond the classroom. 🍎📚

And to our parents and families: Take that extra picture, give that extra hug, and remember that every school year is a new chapter filled with opportunities to grow.

🎉 That’s a Wrap on Our Summer Safety Heroes Program! 🦸‍♀️🚒☀️

What an amazing 10 weeks it has been! We are incredibly proud of every child and family who joined us, learned new safety skills, completed challenges, and truly became Summer Safety Heroes.

From fire and water safety to first aid, bike safety, and heat awareness, our young heroes gained life-saving knowledge they can use to protect themselves and others. Even more special was seeing families learning together, children asking about smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and practicing life jacket safety at home. That’s exactly the impact we hoped for!

A heartfelt thank you to our community partners who made this program possible, especially UTMB for providing mini first aid kits to help our Safety Heroes continue practicing at home. And to our parents and families; thank you for your time, encouragement, and participation. Your support made all the difference.
