📅 Labor Day Holiday Closures

City of Santa Fe offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, September 8.

🚍 Transit: Santa Fe Trails and Santa Fe Ride will not operate Monday. Transit Administration offices will also be closed.
📚 Facilities: All Santa Fe Public Library locations, senior centers, recreation centers, and the Municipal Court will be closed.
⛳ Golf: Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe will remain open.
🅿️ Parking: Monday is a meter holiday, so metered parking spaces will be free. Regular fees still apply at surface lots and garages.
🗑️ Trash & Recycling: There will be no residential collection Monday. Residential collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Commercial collection will not change.

📅 Plan ahead for City closures and service changes on September 7 & 11.

Labor Day | Monday, September 7
City of Santa Fe offices and facilities will be closed. Santa Fe Trails and Santa Fe Ride will not operate, and there will be no residential trash or recycling collection.

Santa Fe Fiestas | Friday, September 11
City administrative offices and recreational facilities will close at noon. Santa Fe Trails and Santa Fe Ride will operate regularly Friday and through the weekend.

🗑️ Important trash and recycling reminder: Because of the Labor Day holiday, residential collection will run one day later than usual all week. Thursday’s collection will take place Friday, September 11. Please have carts curbside by 7 a.m.

Commercial collection will not change.

25th Remembrance Ceremony for September 11

On Friday, September 11, the community is invited to gather at City Hall as we remember the lives lost 25 years ago and honor the 343 firefighters who answered the call at the World Trade Center and never made it home.

The morning will include a stair climb, a fire engine procession from Station 1 to City Hall, music from the Santa Fe Firefighters Pipes & Drums, and a tribute from the Honor Guard.

🚒 Procession begins at 9:25 a.m.
🕙 Ceremony begins at 10 a.m.
📍 City Hall, 200 Lincoln Avenue

All are welcome to attend.

We still remember their names. We still honor their sacrifice. And we will never forget.

Santa Fe’s automated speed enforcement cameras are now live — and the early numbers show why safer driving matters.

In just the first eight hours of operation at one location, cameras recorded more than 500 vehicles traveling 10 mph or more over the posted speed limit.

The goal is simple: change driver behavior and make our streets safer for everyone who drives, walks, bikes, and lives in Santa Fe.

The sound enforcement component will also be activated soon to address excessive vehicle noise.
A note on privacy: Data collected by these cameras is the property of the Santa Fe Police Department. These are not FLOCK cameras, are not connected to a nationwide surveillance network, and data is not shared with federal immigration agencies.

Civil citations will soon be issued by mail to violators.

⚠️ Santa Fe Residents: Bears Spotted in Neighborhoods!

Black bears have been spotted in town, roaming our neighborhoods in search of food, water, and shelter. When these essentials are scarce in the wild, bears may leave their natural environment and move closer to homes and businesses. Please remember: bears are wild animals — never approach or feed them. Keep a respectful distance, leash your pets, and never leave small children unattended in areas where bear activity has been reported. Help keep Santa Fe safe for people and wildlife by making your property less inviting to bears and other wild animals.

🐻How to Reduce Bear Encounters:
Secure Your Trash: Place garbage cans out only on the morning of pickup, not the night before. Use bear-resistant containers if available.

Remove Attractants: Take down bird feeders, bring pet food indoors, and empty bird baths during times of increased bear activity.

Manage Fruit: Pick ripe fruit from trees promptly and clean up any fallen fruit from your yard.

Keep It Clean: Clean barbecue grills after each use and keep compost bins securely closed to prevent strong odors.

The Parks and Open Space Division, through our Park Rangers and IPM Manager, are working closely with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish to monitor ongoing sightings of local wildlife.

🎣 Fishing Derby Registration Lottery Opens September 11!

Get ready to cast a line! The City of Santa Fe's Fishing Derby is coming to Nichols Reservoir on Saturday, September 26.

The Fishing Derby is open only to City of Santa Fe residents. Because space is limited, participants will be selected through a registration lottery. The event can accommodate up to 150 children, each with one accompanying adult.

🎟️ How the lottery works:

1️⃣ Enter: The lottery opens at 9 a.m. Friday, September 11, and closes at 9 p.m. Monday, September 14. Each entry is limited to one child and one accompanying adult.

2️⃣ Random Selection: Participants will be randomly selected after registration closes.

3️⃣ Check Your Email: Those selected for a spot will be notified by email on September 16 or 17 with additional event information.

💧 The Fishing Derby is about more than casting a line. Nichols Reservoir is part of the Upper Santa Fe River Watershed, an important component of Santa Fe's water supply and natural environment. The event gives the next generation an opportunity to experience this resource firsthand and learn why protecting it matters for Santa Fe's future.

🔥 The 102nd Burning of Zozobra is today!

Zozobra returns to Fort Marcy Park on Friday, September 4, and residents and visitors should plan ahead for road closures, traffic impacts, facility closures, and restricted access around the park.

🌱 From runoff to roots!

The City of Santa Fe’s new Runoff to Roots (R2R) Program is helping bring rain gardens and green stormwater infrastructure to public spaces across Santa Fe.

Rain gardens capture stormwater runoff and allow it to soak into the ground, helping improve water quality, reduce runoff, support birds and pollinators, and create greener public spaces.

We recently celebrated the program in action with a ribbon-cutting for the new Runoff to Roots rain garden at the Mary Esther Gonzales Senior Center. The garden also features a bench donated by the City’s Senior Services Division.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate, and to the volunteers, local seniors, City teams, and State partners who helped bring this project to life! 🌿💧
