Now in its fourth year, this free annual event was hosted at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, home to the Senior Circle organization.

North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD) is partnering with the State of New Mexico via its Infrastructure Planning and Development Division (IPDD) and rural/frontier Ombuds to provide emergency funding to Acequia de la Cañada Ancha which was impacted by catastrophic flooding in fall 2025.

Through the emergency funding from the state, culverts will be installed to make the acequia more resilient against future flooding. A local contractor is performing the work, the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) provided the funding, and NCNMEDD is administering the project.

NCNMEDD was proud to participate in the Northeast Regional Transportation Planning Organization (NERTPO) Transportation Project Fund (TPF) presentation meeting, where communities presented important roadway projects for review and ranking by peers and NMDOT.

Through both NERTPO and NPRTPO, NCNMEDD is helping facilitate 30 TPF applications totaling nearly $50 million in roadway improvement projects across Northern New Mexico. Previous funded projects through this process include Blueberry Hill Road in Taos County, 9th Street in Cimarron, and Cabresto Road in Questa. Award announcements are expected this fall.

Exciting progress is happening in Española as historic rehabilitation work officially gets underway at the Rio Arriba County Empowerment Center through funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

The project was awarded $1 million in EDA funding along with a $250,000 match from Rio Arriba County to help preserve and revitalize this important community space.

North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD) is proud to support the project as grant administrator, working closely with Rio Arriba County throughout the process. NCNMEDD Community Planner Angela Bordegaray also coordinated with the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division to secure the required historic preservation clearances for this federally funded project.

The rehabilitation project will create space for the Pipefitters School Training Center, the Lowrider Museum, and future economic development opportunities that will continue serving the community for years to come.

With SHPO approval now complete, construction and restoration efforts are officially moving forward to preserve the historic Empowerment Center while creating new opportunities for education, culture, and economic growth in Rio Arriba County.

Valencia County showed up in style for the Belen Senior Center’s Senior Prom, creating a night full of music, laughter, and unforgettable memories. ✨

Guests arrived dressed to impress and ready to dance the night away as the celebration brought together seniors from across the community for an evening of fun and connection. From complimentary corsages at the door to the warm welcome from Senior Center Director Lydia Maldonado, every detail added a special touch to the night.

The dance floor stayed packed with everything from slow classics and retro favorites to country western hits and ranchera music. When “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang came on, the entire room lit up with smiles, dancing, and pure joy.

A live band and vintage-inspired refreshments made the evening even more memorable, bringing back the magic of the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s while creating new memories for everyone in attendance. 💃

Mora County has been awarded over $2.5 million in funding to build a new Emergency Medical Services base, creating a stronger foundation for emergency care in the community. This includes $1,543,513 in CDBG funds and $1,000,000 in capital outlay.

North Central New Mexico Economic Development District is proud to serve as the grant administrator on this project, helping move it from planning into action.

Construction is already underway with the foundation complete and electrical and plumbing in progress as the team prepares for the installation of the metal building.

This new EMS base will support the dedicated first responders who provide life-saving care every day and ensure Mora County residents continue to have access to essential emergency services when they need it most.
