Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the passing of Santa Maria Police Officer Robert “Bob” Ramos, who dedicated 19½ years of service to our department and community.

This morning, our sworn personnel came together to honor Officer Ramos and remember his dedication, sacrifice, and lasting legacy.

At approximately 4:00 p.m., Santa Maria Police officers conducted a probation compliance check at a residence in Santa Maria.

During the investigation, officers discovered thousands of rounds of am******on. A subsequent search warrant led to the recovery of 11 fi****ms, including ri**es, handguns, revolvers, and sh****ns, along with multiple large-capacity magazines. Several fi****ms had features consistent with assault weapons.

The fi****ms and am******on belonged to an adult male on felony probation who was prohibited from possessing them.

The male was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on multiple felony weapons violations.

🚨 SHOTS FIRED ARREST 🚨

On October 7, 2026, at approximately 7:14 PM, officers responded to the 700 block of South Western Drive regarding a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they located suspects fleeing the area. Officers pursued the suspects on foot and contacted the suspects, taking one juvenile suspect into custody. During the investigation, officers recovered a fi***rm believed to be associated with the incident.

The juvenile suspect was arrested for charges related to the shooting and additional fi***rm-related violations.

Last week, we partnered with several local organizations to host a Car Seat Check Event, helping ensure children’s car seats were properly installed and keeping our youngest community members safe. 🚗💙

Our team checked a total of 15 car seats and provided 8 replacement car seats to families who needed them.

Properly installed car seats help keep children safe and secure while traveling. Thank you to all of our community partners who helped make this event a success!

On Thursday, October 1, 2026, at approximately 2218 hours, Officers responded to a call for service at a residence in the City. When they arrived, a large amount of drugs and money were discovered. Investigators with the Gang Suppression Team (GST) responded and sought a search warrant. The eventual search revealed multiple indications that the drugs were being packaged and sold by the residents of the location. In addition, there were small children in the home. Officers arrested 33 yr old Alejandro Moreno Francisco, 25 yr old Cristobal Hernandez Munoz, and 28 yr old Juan Felipe Garcia Luis for conspiracy (182 PC) possession of a controlled substance for sale (11387 HS), and child endangerment (273A(A) PC). All three arrestees are residents of Santa Maria.

On Thursday, October 1, 2026, the Santa Maria Police Detectives, with the assistance of the SMPD SWAT Team, served a warrant on the 100 block of North Western Avenue during the early morning hours. The warrant was in connection with an ongoing investigation to an attempted robbery and shooting which occurred on September 18, 2026, on the 300 block of North Oakley Street.

SMPD identified Irwin Lara, 32 years of age, resident of Santa Maria soon after the initial investigation and he was arrested. The investigation remained active as Detectives continued to locate additional evidence to the crime.

Detectives later identified Israel Gonzalez, 21 years of age, resident of Santa Maria and obtained a search and arrest warrant for him as part of their investigation. Gonzalez was safely taken into custody without incident and the investigation remains ongoing.

Gonzalez was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for Penal Code 664/187-Attempted Murder, Penal Code 245(a)(2)- Assault with a Fi***rm, Penal Code 246.3- Negligent Discharge of a Fi***rm, Penal Code 29800(a)(1)-Felon in Possession of Fi***rm, and Penal Code 664/211- Attempted Robbery with bail at 1,000,000.

The investigation remains active and anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Pelletier at (805) 928-3781 extension 2063.

On Monday, September 28, 2026, the Santa Maria Police Department was notified of an adult male who reported being assaulted after being driven from his home in Santa Maria and later contacted along Harris Grade Road.

The Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau is seeking the public’s assistance with this ongoing investigation.

Detectives are asking to speak with anyone who traveled along Harris Grade Road between approximately 3:40 p.m. and 3:52 p.m., particularly near the 4600 block of Harris Grade Road and surrounding area.

Anyone who observed unusual activity, stopped vehicles, or individuals in the area is encouraged to contact SMPD. Motorists with dash cameras who traveled this route during that timeframe are also asked to review and preserve their footage, even if nothing appeared suspicious.

Due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, no additional details are being released at this time.
