☀️ THE COOLING CENTER AT 40 PRADO IS OPEN ☀️

Due to the current Heat Advisory, CAPSLO's Prado Homeless Services Center is open today and tomorrow to provide a safe, air-conditioned space for our community.

📍 Location: 40 Prado Road, San Luis Obispo
📅 Dates: Wednesday August 26th and Thursday August 27th
⏰ Hours: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Services Provided (No Cost):
❄️ Cool place to rest & escape the heat
🚿 Showers, laundry services, & hygiene items
🐕 Pets welcome! We have secure outdoor kennels for vaccinated pets/ESAs, and vaccinated registered service animals are welcome inside.

(Guests must be in good standing; unenrolled guests will complete a quick, simple screening assessment upon arrival).

In recent days, many of us have felt the loss of Shelley Fabares and Dolly Parton—two women whose work became part of the soundtrack and stories of generations.

And that can bring up an important question:

Why can the death of someone we never personally knew hurt so much?

Public figures can become woven into our lives in ways we may not recognize until they are gone. A song can take us back to childhood. A familiar face can remind us of sitting beside someone we loved. A television show or movie can represent an entire season of our lives.

Sometimes, when a public figure dies, we aren’t grieving only that person. We may also be grieving memories, relationships, places, and versions of ourselves connected to them.

That grief is real.

There is no requirement that we personally know someone for their death to touch us. And sometimes a very public loss unexpectedly opens the door to something deeply personal.
