Please use alternate routes due to Drum Canyon being closed. A tractor-trailer was unable to negotiate a turn on Drum Canyon early this morning ultimately blocking the entire roadway. Crews are on scene attempting to cleared the roadway. Closures are expected into mid afternoon.

🚴‍♀️ May is Bicycle Safety Month! 🚴‍♂️

Last week, we had a great time participating in Valley Christian Academy’s Ball and Wheel Day. We set up a Bike Rodeo and taught students important bicycle safety skills! Thank you to all the students, staff, and families who made it such a fun event. 😊

👀 Look both ways and stay alert while riding
✋ Use hand signals and follow traffic rules

On April 26 at approximately 3:42 PM, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a request from the San Luis Obispo Police Department to be on the lookout for a vehicle connected to a commercial burglary at a local retail store.

CHP units responded and began checking the area. CHP Officer Polley located the vehicle traveling southbound on US-101 into the City of Santa Maria where officers conducted a high-risk stop. The suspects were taken into custody without incident with the assistance of SMPD and SBSO. The strong teamwork and coordination between agencies helped bring this incident to a safe and swift conclusion.

All stolen property was recovered (which appeared to be over $3000) and will be returned to its rightful owner.

As a friendly reminder: if it doesn’t belong to you, it’s probably not yours to take.

🕵️‍♂️ Not every mystery stays unsolved.

On Saturday, April 25, a hit-and-run crash on State Route 135 near Foster Road left three people injured and sent to the hospital. The driver fled the scene before officers arrived.

But leaving doesn’t end the story.

Through extensive follow-up and investigation, Officer Valenzuela and the team was able to identify and locate the suspect.

Crashes like this have real consequences for real people. Walking away from them only adds to the harm—and the charges.

We’re committed to finding answers and holding those responsible accountable.

CHP - Santa Maria officers had a great week spending time with some of our youngest community members. Santa Maria High School's Robotics Program hosted Dia De Los Ninos which was an amazing free event for our community.

Juan Pacifico Ontiveros Elementary invited us to come and speak to students on safety. After two days and over 14 classroom presentations we reached almost 400 students. This is a great partnership that we hope to continue for years to come!!

Thank you SMHS Robotics Program and Juan Pacifico Ontiveros Elementary for helping us to build quality relationships with our community members.

🚨 Hit-and-Run Investigation – Community Assistance Needed 🚨

On May 3rd at approximately 8:00 p.m., a female pedestrian was struck by an unknown vehicle while traveling westbound toward Guadalupe between Santa Maria and Guadalupe.

The vehicle involved fled the scene, and we are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver and vehicle involved.

👀 We’re looking for:

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash
Drivers who were in the area around that time
Any dashcam or surveillance footage showing vehicles traveling to or from Guadalupe around 8:00 p.m.

Even the smallest detail could make a difference.
