City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks We enrich lives of city- residents through recreation & providing safe well-maintained facilities and parks It also runs the City's Urban Forest Program.

The Department of Recreation and Parks' mission is to enrich the lives of the residents of Santa Maria through quality recreation programs and services; and to provide safe and well-maintained facilities and parks, while anticipating the changing needs of the community. The department operates 234 acres of developed parkland in 28 neighborhood and community parks, part of the 1,774-acre Los Flores

Ranch Park property, the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, the Hagerman Softball Complex, Paul Nelson Aquatics Center, Elwin Mussell Senior Center, Veterans' Memorial Center and other community centers. The department provides programs in aquatics, youth and adult sports, therapeutics and senior services, Special Olympics, community classes and events, youth and teen programs, and the Mayor's Task Force on Youth Safety. 🚨 We are sorry to announce that due to unexpected maintenance repairs, FREE recreational swim on Monday, Sept 7 has been CANCELLED.

Paul Nelson pool will be closed for recreational swim Saturday and Sunday as well.
 
Limited Lap Swim will continue by reservation only.
 
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work to fully reopen the pool for everyone to enjoy.

La alberca Paul Nelson también permanecerá cerrada para la natación recreativa el sábado y domingo.

Movies in the Park is back! 🍿✨

We provide the big screen, and you bring your blankets and lawn chairs and join us for FREE movies in the park!

Each evening kicks off at 6:30pm with themed pre-movie activities, followed by the movie at dusk (around 7:30pm). All events are FREE and family-friendly.

Did you know you can hike one of Northern SB County’s BEST trails under a partial lunar eclipse! 🌙

Los Flores Ranch Park was recently voted Best Hike in the 2026!🏆

Join us Thursday, August 27 for a FREE Twilight Hike featuring sunset views and a partial lunar eclipse, w/ maximum eclipse expected around 9:12pm

Choose from two guided hikes:
- Family Friendly: Moderate 2-mile round trip
- Moderate: 3-mile hike with inclines

7:45- 10pm
Los Flores Ranch Event Parking Lot
(6245 Dominion Rd.)

Bring water, a flashlight, camera, and binoculars, and dress for the weather. Dogs are welcome on a leash. No late arrivals, please.

We’re excited to welcome local student-athletes as they compete.

To help ensure a safe event, the following trails will be closed on Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23:

• Rim Trail
• Ridgetop Trail
• Observation Trail

One of our community’s favorite event is back.. Dia de los Mu***os at Allan Hancock College.🏵️

This year’s celebration will feature a Catrin y Catrina contest, chalk art, live performances, altars and more! Make sure to mark your calendars early and join us for one of our most festive celebrations of the year.

Volunteer Head Coaches Needed! Eligible head coaches may receive one complimentary program registration for a participating child through the Head Coach Incentive Program.

💲$42 City residents | $53 non-City residents
👕 Includes an official NFL FLAG jersey, mouthguard, and flag belt.
