Executives from OpenAI, Anthropic and Hugging Face are briefing the 15-member U.N. Security Council on artificial intelligence and its potential implications for international security.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Hugging Face co-founder Clรฉment Delangue are expected to take part in the discussion during the U.N. General Assembly gathering in New York.
Altman is expected to encourage governments to establish benchmarks for measuring AI capabilities and evaluating the safeguards used by companies developing increasingly advanced systems.
The meeting comes as governments, researchers and AI companies debate how to manage rapidly advancing technology โ including concerns about cybersecurity, autonomous systems and the possibility that future AI could become increasingly difficult for humans to control.
The U.N. Security Council first discussed the international-security risks of AI in 2023.
