FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Firefighters Extinguish Santa Monica Motel Fire

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – On Saturday March 11th, 2023, at approximately 12:38 p.m. multiple 9-1-1 calls were received by the Santa Monica Office of Emergency Management Communications Center reporting a fire at 1102 Pico Boulevard, during business hours at the Holiday Motel & Suites located in the Pico Neighborhood of Santa Monica. Police and Fire Department resources quickly responded and arrived to find a well-developed fire consuming one unit of the single-story motel. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the blaze confining it to the unit of origin and preventing the spread to adjacent units. One individual, who narrowly escaped the fire, was found by police officers in the alley with moderate burns
and smoke inhalation. Paramedics quickly treated and transported the patient to a local hospital.

The fire was brought under control in 10 minutes after SMFD resources arrived. Firefighters were assisted by the Santa Monica Police, McCormick Ambulance, Santa Monica Building & Safety, and OEM 9-1-1 Communications. Fire Investigators were called to perform cause & origin determination, and the fire is still under investigation.

Change your clocks and batteries for Daylight Saving Time.

⏰Smoke alarms that are installed and maintained are vital in reducing fire deaths and injuries.

🔋Smoke alarms with non-replaceable 10-year batteries are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. If the alarm chirps, warning that the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm right away.

🚨Smoke alarms with any other type of battery need a new battery at least once a year. If that alarm chirps, warning the battery is low, replace the battery right away.

⚠️When replacing a battery, follow the manufacturer’s list of batteries on the back of the alarm or manufacturer’s instructions. For more information visit http://ow.ly/MTve50NcIEB

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Santa Monica Fire Department Awarded Class 1 Rating

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The City of Santa Monica is proud to announce that the Santa Monica
Fire Department has again been awarded a Class One Rating by the Insurance Services Office (ISO).
Of the 27,182 fire departments in the U.S. and Santa Monica Fire is 1 of only 474 departments to
receive this rating. Through the Public Protection Classification (PPC) Program, the Insurance Service
Office evaluates municipal fire protection efforts in communities throughout the United States. The
ISO is a nationwide rating service used by insurance companies to help establish local business and
residential property insurance rates. The Class One rating is the highest possible rating that can be
given to any fire department nationwide.

The ratings process involves a periodic, detailed analysis of all fire department operations, the city’s
water system, and emergency 911 communications system. The program provides an objective,
countrywide standard that helps fire departments in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment,
and training. During the recent evaluation, the SMFD received 94.3 out of 105.1 possible points, the
highest we have ever achieved.

Insurance companies use the Insurance Services Office information to help establish fair premiums
for fire insurance — generally offering lower premiums in communities with better protection. By
offering economic benefits for communities that invest in their firefighting services, the program
provides a real incentive for improving and maintaining public fire protection.
In addition to the ISO rating, there is many factors Insurance company’s use to establish the
premiums they charge to policy holders. Residents and business owners can contact their insurance
providers to ensure they benefit from our Fire Departments Class One rating.

Did you know? Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and fire injuries. You can prevent cooking fires. Take these steps to keep your family safe!
🍳 Stand by your pan: If you leave the kitchen, turn the burner off.
👀 Watch what you are cooking: Fires start when the heat is too high. Turn the burner off if you see any smoke or the grease starts to boil.
🥘 Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove: Then, no one can bump them or pull them over.
Keep a pan lid or baking sheet nearby: Use it to cover the pan if it catches on fire. This will put out the fire.

well i cant find my last post i wanted to copy it. its gone. ok since your going to just delete stuff the next time i see a fire or a fire danger i guess i will just keep walking since u arent going to beleive me or do anything about it i guess throwing ci******es off of balconies isnt a fire hazard. my bad
i have a neighbor who has been throwing lit ci******es off of his balcony. when confronted about this he chose to continue and management doesnt seem to care, but it would seem to me that with california on fire this guy needs to be dealt with before he burns the building down. he is at 2200 colorado ave. apt 510. he is a danger but i cant deal with him or they will come after me. so, if there should be a fire in front by starbucks in this building u know where to start looking at least. and maybe management needs a chat.theyre negligence should may already be criminal: should a fire be caused by this guy it will be criminal. it wont be the first time they have been caught in criminal behaviour 2 of your councilmen know all about AO Santa Monica as i have been to a council meeting about the criminality at AO Santa Monica. from prostitution rings to illegal airbnbs this place takes the cake for upper class bs. (and so much more it would take hours to talk about it all. all documented everything i say is known as AO scandals make the papers often enough so everyone knows this place. i cant wait to get out of here

Hi Santa Monica Fire Department!
WE ARE HONORED TO HOST FREE COFFEE AND TREATS FOR FIRST RESPONDERS THIS SUNDAY IN SANTA MONICA! W. Bruce Cameron comes from a family of first responders (he was an ambulance driver, both his father and sister, doctors, his daughter is a cop, his son is in the Army). Anyone who reads the A Dog's Purpose series can see how it has inspired his work. Also, we are big supporters of local, indie businesses who are struggling. So, we decided that this Sunday, at our favorite local coffee shop, all first responders have to do is bring a work I.D. and enjoy the greatest coffee (and pastry!) in L.A. on us! PLEASE SHARE!
