The air in Santa Monica and Los Angeles is actually getting more polluted because of gas-powered passenger cars.

Going to an electric vehicle will radically change this.

Southern California went 87 days without a clean air day, the longest stretch of consecutive ozone pollution violations in at least 20 years. Regulators blame the persistence in pollution on hot, stagnant weather and are studying whether climate change is driving it.

Drive Clean Santa Monica had a great day at Climate Fest Santa Monica! We spoke to many residents about the joys of EV driving as well as giving about 60 test rides and drives in a Tesla and a Chevy Bolt!

Join us this coming Saturday at Climate Fest Santa Monica. This is a huge environmental event held on the grounds of St. Monica's school at 725 California Avenue. Drive Clean Santa Monica will have have a booth so we can answer questions about EV driving. Come and meet us and see all of the interesting displays and discussions.

Drive Clean Santa Monica is an organization dedicated to helping people get out of polluting gas vehicles and into clean zero emission EVs by making it easier to charge.

We are particularly focused on getting the Santa Monica City Council to install hundreds and hundreds of EV chargers in the dense apartment sections of the City where people have no ability to charge in their building.

For those of you who are interested in multi-family buildings and work place charging there's a panel discussion on Friday, Sept. 15th at the Santa Monica Altcar Expo at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

Drive Clean Santa Monica will have its Co-Chair, Kelly-Richard Olsen on the panel.

The Friday session of panels has a ticket cost but for this one we have a special code which gets you in for free. The rest of the Expo, like test drives is free, except for parking.

The City of Santa Monica awarded a bid to put in about 20 new chargers. Of these, were to be at 3 neighborhood parks: Stewart Street Park, Clover Park and Memorial Park.

Without consultation of EV users or the City Council, the staff canceled the park installations claiming that:

1. EV charging was incompatible with park usage.

2. Since the parks are closed for 7 hours at night, the remaining 17 hours that the chargers could be used is not worth it.

3. The parks are not safe after dark. This is despite the fact that EV charging has been taking place safely at Virginia Park for several years 24 hours a day.

The 6 will now be placed in downtown areas where there were already chargers being installed.

More chargers in the commercial districts is great for visitors and workers but does not help residents in the multi-family areas who are not allowed to install chargers or who do not have parking spaces in their building.
