National Mosquito Control Awareness Week ♦ We use integrated mosquito management programs to reduce our mosquito population. We depend on data to make informed decisions about mosquito treatments. Our Skeeter Squad regularly monitors mosquito populations by collecting and identifying mosquitoes, tracking population levels, and testing for viruses. This information helps determine when, where, and if treatments are necessary. Using real-time data enables science-based decisions that protect public health while using resources efficiently.

It's National Mosquito Control Awareness Week... follow along this week to learn more about mosquitoes! 🦟 Mosquitoes aren’t just a nuisance; they’re a serious public health threat. Vector-borne diseases like West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and Dengue are spreading across the U.S. at an alarming rate. Our district monitors and responds to these threats year-round. We don’t have to accept this as the status quo. It’s time for yesterday’s threat to meet today’s solutions.

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week highlights the importance of educating the public about mosquito-borne health risks, the essential services mosquito control programs provide, and the simple steps everyone can take to reduce mosquito populations. Follow along all week for exciting facts and resources!

Did you know mosquitoes can develop in small amounts of standing water found in places we often overlook, such as flower pot saucers, children's toys, pool floats, and other containers around our homes? It takes only 5–7 days for a mosquito to grow from an egg into an adult.

Mosquitoes spend three of the four stages of their life cycle in water. If you notice mosquito larvae or pupae swimming in standing water, simply empty the water. These immature stages cannot survive without it and are harmless to people.

By routinely checking your yard and removing standing water, you can help eliminate mosquitoes before they become flying adults that can bite and leave itchy, annoying welts—or potentially spread disease.

Tip it, toss it, and drain it—every week!. Learn more at: https://www.southwaltonmosquitocontrol.org/how-to-eliminate-mosquito-breeding-sources
