Remembering Every Life: Annual Memorial for Sonoma County, May 2

Each year, thousands of people in Sonoma County pass away—and sometimes, no next of kin can be located or family members are unable to make final arrangements. When that happens, the dedicated team in the County’s Human Services Public Administrator’s Office steps in to ensure every person is cared for with dignity, respect, and compassion.

On May 2 at 2 p.m., the community is invited to join County staff and local leaders for a memorial service honoring the 59 individuals who passed away last year without loved ones able to make their final arrangements.

📍 Pleasant Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary
1700 Pleasant Hill Road, Sebastopol

“Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, not only in life but also in death… This memorial is a way for us to pause and honor their lives. It reflects our commitment to ensuring no one in our community is forgotten.” — Angela Struckmann, Director, Sonoma County Human Services Department

The Human Services Department began holding annual memorials in 2023 to provide a meaningful farewell for those cremated by the County. Since 2010, approximately 680 individuals have been laid to rest at Pleasant Hills Memorial Park—some unhoused, some estranged from family, and others who simply outlived their loved ones.

Everyone deserves to be remembered.
Please join us in honoring these members of our community.

💙 April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness and strengthen our commitment to protecting children and supporting families in our community.

Earlier this month, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors presented a Gold Resolution declaring April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Sonoma County, recognizing the ongoing work to prevent and address child abuse and support children and families.

💙 In 2025, the Sonoma County Human Services Department Family, Youth & Children’s Services division:
• Allocated $1.15 million to support prevention services in the community
• Responded to 1,665 reports of child abuse requiring in-person investigation
• Provided protection by separating 103 children from their homes due to abuse or neglect
• Supported over 400 children in foster care
• Partnered with families and community organizations through 392 Child and Family Team meetings to coordinate services and strengthen family stability

Preventing child abuse is a shared responsibility. Community members, parents, youth, local tribes, and partner organizations across Sonoma County continue working together to expand prevention, education, and support services that help families thrive.

On April 24, the Children’s Memorial Flag will be raised at the County Center in honor of children impacted by abuse and to reaffirm our commitment to prevention and healing.

Together, we can create safer, stronger communities for all children. 💙
