It takes a lot of hands to build a home. 🏠💚

This Labor Day, we’re celebrating everyone whose time, talent, and hard work help build stronger homes and stronger communities.

From our construction crews and trade partners to volunteers, donors, community partners, and (most importantly!) our Habitat families, thank you for putting in the work.

Because a home is built by people who show up, pitch in, and believe in what’s possible when we work together. 💙💚 🏠 Thank you for partnering with us to build homes, communities, and hope.

Happy Labor Day from Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County!

All Californians deserve a safe, affordable place to call home, yet our state faces the nation’s worst housing crisis.

Prop 1 is our chance to help fix it. It will fast-track affordable housing production, expand homeownership for working families, veterans, and seniors, and help keep vulnerable neighbors housed. 💙💚

Best of all? It demands strict fiscal accountability, without raising a single cent in taxes.

This Prop goes on the ballot this November! Learn more and join the movement 👇

We’re still celebrating, and now we’re in the paper, too! 📰💙💚

A big thank you to the Sebastopol Times for capturing our Home Dedication at Blankenship Place and sharing the story with the community. Our families received a pretty special welcome from their new neighbors.

“On behalf of Sebastopol, I just want to say welcome home," said Mayor Jill McLewis. And from Supervisor Hopkins: “You are cherished and you are honored and you are part of our community. We are so thrilled to have you here.” She also spoke to the heart of the Habitat model, calling it “co-creation”: building a future together, not simply giving and receiving.

Then, after the speeches, everyone walked with the families to their new front doors and opened the doors together. Honestly, it doesn’t get much better than that. 💚🏡

And special thank you to Poppy Bank, our Home Dedication event sponsor, for helping us celebrate this incredible milestone and our four families!

This past Saturday, we celebrated home, community, and new beginnings. 💙🏡💚

We opened the doors at Blankenship Place and celebrated something pretty special: four families who will soon be calling these beautiful new homes their own.

With family, friends, community members, local officials, volunteers, donors, and trade partners gathered together, the day was filled with all the good stuff: joy, gratitude, a few happy tears, and lots of celebrating.

We also took a moment to honor the legacy of Jack & Phyllis Blankenship, whose generosity and vision helped make Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County what it is today. Their names now live on at Blankenship Place, where four families will build their own memories for years to come.

And there were some pretty special gifts waiting for our families, too:
🧵 Handmade quilts to bring warmth and comfort to their new homes, generously donated by Moonlight Quilters of Sonoma County
🏮 Lanterns to light the way into a new chapter, donated by Mark Blankenship
🔑 Wooden keys signed by the people who helped make this moment possible

Then came the best part: we opened the doors and took a tour of their new homes together. 🏡

After months of construction, planning, hard work, volunteer hours, partnership, and community support, it was incredibly meaningful to pause and simply celebrate.

The families will be moving into their new homes by the end of the month, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them home.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Blankenship Place possible. This is what happens when a community comes together: we don’t just build houses. We build homes, hope, and a foundation for what comes next.

Welcome home, Alaina, Jeremy & Melissa, Kerrily, and Maria 🏡💚

It really does take a village 🏡

As we see the finish line in sight for our four townhomes in downtown Sebastopol, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible volunteers who have helped in this final stretch.

From community volunteers to members of Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary and the Presbytery of the Redwoods, so many people have shown up to help with those all-important final details: interior touch-ups, punch-list projects, landscaping, and even putting the home numbers on the front of each home. 💙💚

Every project, every planted garden, every finished detail has brought us one step closer to the moment these homes become home for four local families.

It has been amazing to watch Blankenship Place come together, and we couldn’t have done it without the many hands, hearts, and hours that have gone into this build.

Thank you to every volunteer who has been part of this journey. This is what community looks like. 💚🏡

Earlier this month, we kicked off August by talking about back-to-school season, and how a safe, stable home can help set children up for success.

This week, we’re looking at another important piece of that picture: education and opportunity. 🏡

Research shows that stable housing can make a meaningful difference in a child’s educational journey:

đź“– Better attendance & academic consistency
Housing stability is linked to improved school attendance and greater academic consistency.

🧠 More focus for learning
Stable housing can support cognitive focus and stronger educational outcomes.

🎓 More opportunities for the future
Children in stable homes are 32% more likely to graduate high school on time and 37% more likely to attend college.

Because back-to-school preparation is about more than backpacks and school supplies. It starts with having a safe, stable place to learn, grow, and dream about what comes next. đź’š

We’re proud to be a partner in creating that foundation, supporting families as they build brighter futures for themselves and their children. 🏡✨

🚪✨ Something is about to open…

Our fabulous former Habitat team member Lori has been working her artistic magic on this door—and we’re getting ready to bring it out into the community in a pretty special way.

We can’t reveal too much just yet, but let’s just say… we’re getting ready to open the door to something new. 👀

Stay tuned… ✨🚪

Happy National Thrift Shop Day! ♻️🛍️

Today is the perfect excuse to thrift, treasure hunt, and give something great a second life, and in our opinion, there’s no better place to do it than the Sonoma County ReStore!

From furniture and home décor to tools, building materials, appliances, and more, you never know what you’ll find. And the best part? Your purchase helps build homes, community, and hope right here in Sonoma County. 🏡💚

So come thrift with purpose, find something fabulous, and know that your secondhand score is helping create a first home for a local family. One person’s “I don’t need this anymore” is another person’s “I’ve been looking everywhere for this!”

Happy thrifting! đź’š

The Final Sweat Equity Milestone! 🏡

Today, we’re celebrating a very special milestone: Alaina, our final Blankenship Place homeowner, has completed her sweat equity hours! 🎉🔨

Alaina has called Sonoma County home for years. After earning her degree in Psychology and pursuing a master’s in Counseling, she has dedicated herself to supporting children and teens in need and being the mentor she wished she’d had growing up.

Now, after 500 hours of hard work alongside Habitat volunteers and staff, Alaina is one step closer to a dream she and her daughter have shared: a safe, stable home.

Congratulations, Alaina! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to celebrate with you and your daughter soon!

The Countdown to Home Is On 🏡

Blankenship Place is looking more like home every day, and we’re getting closer to welcoming our four families home!

A few exciting updates from the construction site:

- Railings are now installed outside each townhome
- Exterior paint touchups are complete
- Garage doors have been installed
- PG&E is on site preparing for power to be connected in the coming week

After more than a year of hard work from our amazing construction team, volunteers, donors, partners, and the families themselves, the final pieces are falling into place.

The countdown is ON!
