Subsequent generations of the McDonald family maintained possession of the mansion until the death of Marcia McDonald in 1971, whereupon it was willed to the University of California and Stanford. Mansion has been beautifully renovated and restored to reflect its former Victorian beauty. Mableton is a private residence that is not open to the public except on special occasions such as for Halloween and charity events. Weddings and other private functions are not held on the grounds.
