to Health & Wellness Day in January when TLT leaders met a plethora of professionals from a variety of departments, and explored what it’s like to work in the medical field. Some of the highlights at Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa included a VIP experience where students toured the Grossroom (pathology), food service (kitchen), women’s health and cath lab, and gained a hands-on perspective of the trauma center in action. At Medtronics, some of our Santa Rosa students learned about why STEM careers are critical to the development of life-saving medical devices. They also toured engineering labs where product design and testing are completed. At Kaiser Permanente Petaluma Medical Offices, some of leaders met a mama-to-be and observed a prenatal ultrasound procedure, learned why vitals are an important element to managing our health and why proper hand-washing techniques prevent the spread of germs!

Special thanks to our partners at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Kaiser Permanente - Petaluma Offices, and Medtronic Cardiovascular for hosting TLT’s Health & Wellness Day so our youth leaders could explore, discover and learn exciting information and opportunities in the medical industry!

Here’s another to mid-March and High Tech Day where students from one of our Santa Rosa classes spent the day in San Francisco just before COVID-19 and SIP restrictions were in place. At Autodesk, student learned about STEM careers and how Autodesk customers use digital tools to make a better world for all. At Lucasfilm, our leaders had a unique, VIP tour. They got an close-up look at models and artifacts from various films, including Star Wars and Indiana Jones, discovered how technology and art drives story, and explored career opportunities within the Lucas empire.

It was another fun-filled day where TLT students explores big business that focused on technology and innovation.

BIG thanks to our partners at Autodesk, Lucasfilm and Sonoma County Airport Express for bringing this incredible day to life!

Government Day in February when our leaders met local government officials, learned about top local issues being voted on in the upcoming election, and got insight on what it takes to make a city run. The youth in this country are our leaders of tomorrow. Their political attitudes are shaped by unique experiences and diverse backgrounds, so it’s essential that they learn more about politics and get involved so they can channel their energies towards effecting a positive change.

A special thank you to Senator Mike McGuire, Mayor Teresa Barrett, Mayor Logan Harvey, Vice Mayor Victoria Fleming, Councilwoman Debora Fudge, Councilmember David Hagele, and Councilwoman Susan Hollingsworth Adams for joining us. Big thanks to our very own Herman G. Hernandez and Councilmember Chris Rogers for their leadership, coordination and facilitation of the day’s agenda.
