If you meet someone from out of town, let them know about the dangers of rip currents and sneaker waves.

If someone is waving or yelling for you: don’t panic, take 10 seconds to assess the situation, then immediately alert a lifeguard. While help is coming, see if there’s a floatation device you can throw to them. Don’t attempt a rescue on your own.

[Español a continuación] Today we were honored to welcome visitors from the U.S. Marine Corps from Camp Pendleton as part of our ongoing partnership with their Civil Affairs teams. Several times each year, DEM staff work with Marines before deployment, sharing lessons learned in disaster response, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operations, and ways to better serve communities during emergencies.

Today’s visit was especially fun because our Model EOC teen program was in session, giving the Marines a chance to observe local high school students working together to allocate resources and supplies during a disaster scenario.

Thank you to these Marines for your service, dedication, and commitment to helping communities around the world. We wish you safe travels and a successful deployment!

Effective June 15th @ 8:00am

Burn permits suspended for North Bay counties.

CAL FIRE has suspended all residential outdoor burn permits for landscape debris in State Responsibility Areas of Colusa, Lake, Marin, Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo counties.

The suspension takes effect Monday, June 15 at 8 a.m. and applies to outdoor residential burning of landscape debris such as branches and leaves.

With increasing fire activity, higher temperatures, lower fuel moistures and limited precipitation in the forecast, residents are encouraged to use this time to prepare their homes and properties for wildfire.

Help reduce wildfire risk by:

✅ Clearing dead or dying vegetation within 100 feet of structures
✅ Using fire-resistant plants and non-flammable ground cover
✅ Chipping, hauling or properly disposing of green waste instead of burning

Campfires may still be allowed within organized campgrounds or on private property where otherwise permitted, but they must be maintained safely to prevent spread.
