FBI Warning: Permit Fee Phishing Scam 🚨

The FBI is alerting the public about a nationwide phishing scam targeting people involved in planning or building projects.
Criminals are impersonating city and county officials—using real permit details like property addresses, application numbers, and staff names—to send convincing fake emails requesting payment.

These messages may:
• Look official with logos and formatting
• Include detailed permit information
• Contain fake invoices
• Urge immediate payment to avoid delays
• Request payment via wire transfer, apps, or cryptocurrency
⚠️ Protect yourself:
• Don’t trust emails based on appearance alone
• Double-check the sender’s email address and domain
• Always verify payment requests by contacting Permit Sonoma directly

2026 Sonoma County Chipper Program

The Sonoma County Fire Prevention Division of Permit Sonoma provides free chipping to residents who are making their properties more wildfire resilient. The purpose of the program is to create defensible space, specifically around the home, structures, and access routes to the structures, for properties located in the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County. Please note that our crews have the right to deny chipper service when a request is outside the program's scope or does not meet the requirements.

Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Policy Update

On June 16, 2026, the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board approved the County of Sonoma’s Local Agency Management Program, known as LAMP, for Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems.

OWTS are commonly known as septic systems. The State OWTS Policy requires local jurisdictions to receive Regional Water Quality Control Board approval in order to regulate these systems locally.

The County submitted its LAMP in December 2025 and a revised version in March 2026. Approval of the LAMP supports continued local oversight of septic systems in Sonoma County.

🎆 Living in Sonoma County? Know YOUR city's fireworks rules before the Fourth.

🚫 Cotati, Healdsburg, Sebastopol, Sonoma & Windsor: ALL fireworks banned, no exceptions.

🚫 Santa Rosa: every firework is illegal — in the city AND surrounding unincorporated areas.

⚠️ Cloverdale: only State-approved fireworks sold locally are allowed. Anything that flies, shoots, or explodes = illegal, and patrols are out enforcing it.
