During Wildfire Preparedness Month back in May, staff from the Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest partnered with Cobb Mountain Elementary School for a wildfire preparedness poster contest, encouraging students to learn about fire safety and share what they’ve learned through art.

A big thank you to the students, teachers and staff who participated in helping build a more wildfire-ready community. Education and preparedness start early, and these young artists did a great job highlighting the importance of wildfire safety.

🚨 Prescribed burn alert for Monday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 23

CAL FIRE and the Napa County Fire Department will be leading a 100-acre prescribed burn Monday and Tuesday on the Castleview Ranch, located within the Wild Horse Valley Community near the Napa County border with Solano County.

Residents in both Napa and Solano counties may expect to see smoke between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

This burn is part of the Castleview Fuel Reduction Project that has been established in partnership with the Napafirewise and Coombsville/Wild Horse Valley Fire Safe Council.

The site is one of strategic importance on top of a ridge above the larger population down below on the eastern side of Napa. The area was impacted by wildfires in 2008 and 2017.

Friday’s Live Oaks RX burn highlighted the value of prescribed fire as a land management tool. Conducted at the Live Oaks Preserve, a Sonoma Land Trust property, this collaborative project between Sonoma Land Trust and CAL FIRE LNU focused on reducing invasive vegetation, improving forage conditions for grazing, and supporting the long-term health and resilience of the landscape.

Projects like this demonstrate how thoughtful stewardship and partnership can help restore and maintain healthy working lands for the future. 🔥🌿

- NEW INCIDENT - Firefighters are at scene of a 1/2 acre vegetation fire near Eickhoff road / Pear View road, Lakeport. The fire is in a grass/oak/woodland and has a moderate rate of spread. If traveling in the area use caution.

Prescribed burns are a vital tool to reduce wildfire risk and protect our communities.

Before: Crews carefully plan for weeks—evaluating weather, fuels, and terrain, building control lines, coordinating with partners, and preparing resources.
During: Fire is intentionally ignited under strict conditions, with crews monitoring behavior, weather, and holding lines to keep it within the planned area.
After: Crews patrol for hot spots, secure the perimeter, and evaluate results to ensure objectives are met.

This week crews successfully completed the Spanish Valley (257-acre) prescribed burn in Pope Valley, Napa County.

Objectives: Protect the Berryessa Estates community, community members and the environment by reducing fire intensity, improving ecosystem health, and creating safer conditions for future wildfire response.

-INCIDENT FINAL-

Engines remain on scene putting out hot spots. Due to better mapping the fire has been updated to 19.5 acres. The fire was located in steep terrain with light flashy fuels and oak woodland.

Thanks to a very well coordinated mutual aide response, no structures were damaged or destroyed. Thank you Fairfield Fire Department, Suisun Fire Protection District and Vacaville Fire Protection District for the assistance.

-INCIDENT UPDATE - Forward progress of the fire has been stopped at approximately 6 acres. Units are transitioning to mop up operations by putting out hot spots and strengthening containment lines. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
