Nothing more beautiful than these vintage steam engines!
In the early 1900s, Santee was served by the San Diego, Cuyamaca and Eastern Railroad. This steam line, built in the late 1880s, connected downtown San Diego to the inland community of Foster, passing through the Santee Depot along Railroad Avenue (near modern-day Mission Gorge Road). Unfortunately the 1916 floods washed out portions of the track and ended the service in the area.
