Can Am Rugby 2026. It was a busy Saturday in Saranac Lake. Officers were out and about checking out the games and the Can Am Carnival at Riverside Park. Its always nice to see town hustling and bustling. Thanks to Nutrition 365 for the delicious Cinnamon Roll! Our Officers will be out and about all weekend as always keeping everyone safe!

Welcome to our new seasonal Parking Enforcement Officer, Jade Stark. Jade is a Saranac Lake High School student. She will be out enforcing parking regulations throughout the Village. Please remember to check the signs where you are parked for timed parking zones. Remember these are there to help businesses be able to allow customers adequate parking to patron their establishments. Remember to be kind, Jade is just doing a job. Today wrapped up the final day of Session 2 of the Saranac Lake Police Department Youth Academy. The cadets all passed their NYS Boater's Safety Course. This afternoon they completed a new thing for this year, the Blue Brick Challenge. After seeing Chief Perrotte's Yellow Brick from the FBI National Academy, a few cadets had questions about it and the journey to earning it. We decided a challenge of our own was in order and a new tradition was born. Thanks again to Peak 47 Crossfit for coming up with the incredibly demanding challenge for our cadets. Several cadets said they have never done anything this tough. When we do hard things we learn and we become stronger. The simple painted blue paver stone will become a symbol of an accomplishment that they each did and a time in their lives. We hope they will always remember this week and lessons they learned and friendships made and forged in tough situations. Congratulations Session 2! Here's to next year!

Day 4 may just take the prize for the best day yet of the Saranac Lake Police Department Youth Academy. We started off the day with education about bullying and mental health for the teen cadets. We were then joined by some of NY's elite Forest Rangers who taught the cadets about how they rescue people from the back woods, mountains, and waterways of NYS. The cadets were taught how to splint and provide care in an emergency. All that instruction was put to the test during a mock rescue mission, the scenario.......a mountain bike crash on Dewey Mtn with 2 patients. The cadets splinted and stabilized injuries and then came the surprise of the week......the patients were brought out to a clearing where we were met by New York State Police Aviation. The cadets learned about the Aviation Unit and how their mission supports multiple Agencies to include Police and especially the NYS Forest Rangers. Thank you to Rangers Ordway, Lewis, Adams, Bowler, and Lt LaPierre as well as Pilot Engel. We closed out the afternoon with a presentation from Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and a battle with the water cans. Even the Chief got soaked by the cadets! We closed out the day with some kickball again. A special thanks to everyone who has supported the Youth Academy all week. Its hard to believe the week wraps up tomorrow already. Tomorrow is the NYS Boater's Safety Course.
