Billy Strings Freak Fair Festival-Travel Advisory

The Billy Strings Freak Fair Festival will take place at the Ionia County Fairgrounds on Friday, August 28 and Saturday, August 29th, 2026.
Approximately 30,000 visitors are expected in the area throughout the weekend. Due to ongoing construction on I-96, Boston Township and the Village of Saranac are expected to experience significantly increased traffic.
The influx of visitors is expected to begin Thursday evening, August 27th, and continue throughout the weekend until Sunday afternoon.
To Assist with traffic management and emergency response, Michigan State Police (MSP), Ionia County Sheriff’s Department (ICSD), and the Saranac Community Fire Department (SCFD) will have additional personnel assigned to the township and village for the duration of the event.

Expected Traffic Route

Eastbound traffic exiting I-96 will be routed at the Nash Highway exit, then:
• North on Nash Highway to Grand River Ave.
• East on Grand River Ave. to Morrison Lake Rd into the Village
• East on Bluewater or Main St./Riverside Dr.

Residents and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and use caution as traffic volumes increase throughout the weekend. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as local agencies work to keep traffic moving and ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the event.

Today is the day! Stop down during Bridgefest and come help us celebrate 150 years! We will have the station open during the day for people to come in and check out the trucks and our equipment! The raffle drawing will be done at 6pm. You do not need to be present to win. All winners will be notified at the beginning of next week! Thank you again to everyone who donated prizes! We ended up with 52 prizes total!

Also, don’t forget about the Hog Roast Fundraiser at the trailhead tonight! It starts at 6pm and is by donation only! We will be there until sold out. Come see us! The SCFD would love to serve you!

🚒❤️ Congratulations to Saranac’s 2026 Citizen of the Year — Kevin “K-Dog” McGraw! ❤️🚒

If you’ve spent much time around Saranac, there’s a good chance you know Kevin McGraw — or, as many of us know him, “K-Dog.” And if you know Kevin, you know just how much he cares about this community and the people in it.

Kevin moved to Saranac in 1992, and for the past 34 years, he has made this community his home. More importantly, he has made serving others a huge part of his life.

Today, Kevin serves as a Firefighter-EMT with the Saranac Community Fire Department, alongside Chief Tony Koster and an incredible group of men and women. His career of service also includes time with the Kent County Sheriff’s Department and an impressive 40-year career with Amway Corporation.

But Kevin’s impact reaches far beyond his career.

He is the founder of the School Emergency Response Coalition (SERC), a nonprofit dedicated to teaching CPR and AED skills in schools, churches, and organizations while introducing students to careers in Police, Fire, EMS, and Emergency Communications. For Kevin, the greatest reward isn’t recognition — it’s hearing that someone used the skills they learned to save a life.

That tells you a lot about the kind of person Kevin is.

Kevin and his wife, Vickie, have been married for 43 years, and when he isn’t serving the community, you might find him riding a motorcycle or lending a hand on his neighbor’s farm.

When Kevin learned he had been selected as Citizen of the Year, he described himself as blessed, honored, privileged, and humbled. He also said something that probably explains why this recognition fits him so well:

“I love this community and all of its people.”

Kevin, Saranac loves you right back.

On behalf of the Saranac BridgeFest Committee and our entire community, congratulations to Kevin “K-Dog” McGraw, our 2026 Citizen of the Year! 🏆

As part of this milestone celebration, we're hosting a raffle fundraiser to help raise money for equipment, maintenance, and gear to help ensure that we can continue providing the best service possible for years to come.
