This change is due to the increasing logistical difficulty of monitoring for prohibited comments that contain obscenity, defamation, libel, threats, remarks that disparage or discriminate against anyone based on their s*x, race, religion, national origin, s*xual orientation, disability, etc. It is not the intent of the sheriff’s office for these posts to constitute a public forum. It is still our policy to use social media to communicate up-to-date information to members of the community. The sheriff’s office continues to be committed to providing information to the public, while eliminating the risks associated with litigation and potentially staggering costs to taxpayers. The sheriff’s office continues to maintain multiple avenues for members of the community to communicate with our office to provide tips, report criminal activity, make complaints, request public records, or ask questions through our website at www.sarasotasheriff.org, Crime Stoppers at 941-366-8477 (366-TIPS), dispatch center at 941-316-1201, email at [email protected], and our SCSO app (available at both the Apple Store and Google Play). We will continue to share information on cases and inform our citizens and media of breaking news on our social media platforms and through press releases. As always, we thank our community members for their continued support. This decision will help accomplish our goal of keeping our community safe.

Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is pleased to announce that Captain Brian James graduated September 4th from the Florida Sheriffs Association(FSA) Commanders Academy, Graduating Class 19.

Captain James, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau, completed the academy at the Florida Sheriff’s Association headquarters in Tallahassee. The program was designed by sheriffs to ensure that these leaders have the background and training to carry out their responsibilities in the agencies they serve. This program is recognized as a premier course of executive study for mid to upper-level criminal justice leaders.

On Wednesday, members from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Fugitive Apprehension Unit, Narcotics Enforcement Team, and SWAT served an arrest warrant on 41-year-old Eddie L. Outing, DOB 9/21/84, for Armed Trafficking in Co***ne stemming from a 2025 SCSO investigation. Outing was taken into custody at his Laurel residence following a brief period and without incident.

Outing is no stranger to local law enforcement. Over the past 20 years, he has been arrested 37 times for offenses ranging from burglary and aggravated assault to co***ne and ma*****na possession, and driving under the influence.

The successful apprehension of a wanted individual facing a serious armed drug-trafficking charge is another example of the coordinated efforts of SCSO units to locate and safely take dangerous offenders into custody. With Outing off the streets and behind bars, our community is safer today.

Sheriff Hoffman is proud to announce the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Corrections Training Academy’s sixth graduating class.

On Wednesday, the five newest recruits of the Courts and Corrections Division gathered at the sheriff’s office headquarters to celebrate with family, friends and agency members. The graduation ceremony followed their extensive academy curriculum, where the recruits were instructed in physical fitness, fi****ms, defensive tactics, first aid, legal, officer safety, and correctional supervision. In addition, they trained in emergency response, communications, and were made familiar with the agency’s facility and equipment.

On Wednesday, August 26, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Unit, TAC Unit, Special Investigations Section, and Patrol, in cooperation with the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) executed search warrants at two illegal gambling establishments in Sarasota.

The first search warrant was executed at an unnamed business located at 3503 N. Lockwood Ridge Road. During the search, deputies seized twenty-eight (28) illegal slot machines.

The second search warrant was executed at “Surf’s Up” located at 6394 N. Lockwood Ridge Road. Deputies seized forty-eight (48) illegal slot machines from the premises.
