Today marks the end of a successful career for Investigator Steve Reside. Investigator Reside joined the Saratoga Springs Police Department in 2008 after proudly serving our country in the United States Air Force. Steve was promoted to Investigator in 2015, handling some of our most critical cases. He has a real strength in IT, and has supported the agency many times when new hardware, software, or other equipment has been integrated into our operations. We cannot stress how much we appreciate Steve for going above and beyond in assisting us with these large projects. You'd often see him replying to e-mails even when on "vacation", so we are sure his family looks forward to his accounts being deactivated at the end of the day.

Investigator Reside, we thank you for your service to Saratoga Springs and wish you a very happy retirement!

We have one more new teammate to introduce to the community!

This afternoon, K9 handler Bill McDonough stopped by Saratoga Race Course to introduce them to our newest hire, K9 Leo. Leo is a 14-month old Malinois from Poland. Leo was purchased thanks to the generosity of NYRA.

Beginning Monday, Leo and Officer McDonough will attend 16 weeks of training and will specialize in explosives detection and tracking. With the amount of special events and large gatherings in our city, having canines to conduct sweeps is a critical element in ensuring public safety. We are extremely appreciative of NYRA's willingness to help us fill K9 Axel's absence after he passed unexpectedly due to a medical emergency. We may not ever be able to truly replace Axel, but Officer McDonough is already excited to work with his new partner.

Leo was welcomed to Saratoga Springs by Deputy Commissioner Charleson, Chief McIntosh, members of the K9 Unit, and NYRA Vice President - Security Jim Previtera.

Public Statement regarding Concord Drive Incident

First and foremost, the Rocky Hill Police Department would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this extremely difficult time.

On Saturday, August 22, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers of the Rocky Hill Police Department responded to the area of Concord Drive for a report of a female victim suffering from stab wounds.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim and immediately began life-saving measures. She was transported to an area hospital, where, unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.

The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Michael Ranger, had fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. Through the coordinated efforts of the Rocky Hill Police Department and numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, Ranger was located and taken into custody within 24 hours of the incident.

Ranger was detained by the Saratoga Springs Police Department in upstate New York as a result of a successful License Plate Reader hit. A warrant was subsequently applied for and approved, charging Ranger with Murder and Violation of a Standing Criminal Protective Order.

Ranger remains in custody in New York and is awaiting extradition to Connecticut.

We would like to thank the Saratoga Springs Police Department, Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crimes Unit, as well as all of our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners who assisted with this investigation and the apprehension of the suspect.

We will provide additional information when it is appropriate to do so. At this time, out of respect for the victim's family we will not be releasing additional details.

At 10:33 this morning, an officer on patrol received a hit on a license plate reader attached to his patrol vehicle, alerting him that the vehicle nearby was being sought by Rocky Hill, CT police in relation to a homicide. Officers conducted a high-risk stop in the area of Rock Street. The driver, a 55 year old male, was safely detained and our agency is currently working with Rocky Hill, CT police to assist them further with their investigation.

As this is still an active investigation being led by another agency, no further information will be released at this time.
