County-wide Burn Ban is in effect as of today, 24 Aug 2026, until further notice

A ban prohibits or restricts outdoor burning for public safety.
Violation is a Class C misdemeanor, which can result in a fine up to $500

Prohibited Activities: Open burning of trash, brush, or debris, as well as leaving any fire unattended.

Allowed Activities: Generally, backyard cooking in a contained BBQ pit or fire pit is permitted, alongside welding with proper precautions (such as having a fire watch person and water nearby).

We are grateful and blessed by the camaraderie between fire fighters and fire departments. We want to thank the neighborly department that just donated all these SCBAs, masks, and bottles along with compressors and fill station to refill them. They asked for anonymity. THANK YOU!

Friendly Reminder...there IS a BURN BAN in Matagorda County until further notice!

We are predicted to have high winds through the weekend. Wind accelerates fires and can make them hard to control.

Be safe! Postpone making any fires, please.

Matagorda County has issued a Burn Ban for all areas of the county South of FM 521 effective immediately.

Did you know that EVERY YEAR Smokey Joe's donates time, love and a lot of work to make our annual BBQ Fundraiser a huge success. We would not be able to feed the community without him.

Today we gave them a plaque to say THANK YOU FROM THE SARGENT VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT!
