VSV is a viral disease that primarily affects horses and cattle and occasionally swine, sheep, goats, llamas, and alpacas. Human can also become infected with the disease when handling affected animals, resulting in flulike symptoms, but this is a rare event.

I honestly never thought I would ever live to see the day I needed to share tips for staying safe on the road with our horses because of rioters but I know some of you live around or travel through Kansas City, Lincoln, Omaha, Des Moines and some of the other bigger communities so I am postings these tips that were passed along to me this morning. I sincerely hope none of you are ever put in a situation where you need any of this.

Updated to add Maree’s comment below to make sure you also have tools to quickly cut zip ties, locks, etc. in case you need to get to horses quickly.
