Welcome to the Satellite Beach Police Department’s page. On behalf of the members of our department, we are pleased to present the accomplishments of our safe and beautiful City. As the Chief of Police, I am extremely proud of the daily efforts of our entire staff, who faithfully serve the residents of our coastal City and the many visitors who enjoy our friendly environment ye

ar-round. The Satellite Beach Police Department is comprised of 25 sworn law enforcement officers, 14 full or permanent part-time civilian support personnel including dispatchers, and 11 school crossing guards. Our agency is committed to providing professional services to those who live in and visit Satellite Beach. Through careful employee selection, constant training, and progressive community programs, our department offers the citizens of Satellite Beach the highest level of community policing and customer service available. Over 11,000 local residents are benefiting from the law enforcement services provided through the following divisions: Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Professional Standards, Communications, Records, Property & Evidence, the only all Volunteer Marine Enforcement Program in the State, Emergency Response Team (ERT), School Resource Officers, K-9, School Crossing Guards and more. We are also proud of our Satellite Beach Police Department Volunteer Program, which is an extension of our eyes and ears in the community. We have many volunteer programs which enhance our City, such as C.O.P. (Citizens on Patrol), the all Volunteer Marine Patrol, ATV Beach Patrol, Bike Patrol, Fingerprinting, Housechecks, Administration, and Stop By & Say Hi. Our motto of “Serving our Community” is what we do on a daily basis, and we are privileged to serve the residents and visitors of Satellite Beach.

Congratulations to Officer Ian Sumner on being named the Satellite Beach Police Department's Officer of the 1st Quarter 2026.

Officer Sumner was the first officer candidate sponsored by our department to graduate from Eastern Florida State College's Police Academy. An honorable United States Marine Corps veteran and graduate of Florida Institute of Technology, he has quickly become an asset to our agency since joining the Satellite Beach Police Department in September 2025.

During the first quarter, Officer Sumner played a key role in addressing ongoing community concerns involving reckless driving, bonfire activity, and e-bike complaints through enforcement, problem-solving, and community engagement. He also demonstrated exceptional initiative by identifying and arresting a suspect involved in an attempted residential burglary within one day of the initial report.

In less than a year with our agency, Officer Sumner has already made a significant impact on both the department and the community we serve. Congratulations, Officer Sumner, and thank you for your dedication to keeping Satellite Beach safe.

Thirty-four years ago, on May 31, 1992, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Satellite Beach Police Department Sergeant E. Edward Hartmann ( #470) and Officer Philip J. Flagg ( #479) paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty when their lives were tragically taken by an impaired driver.

Sergeant Hartmann and Officer Flagg dedicated their lives to protecting the citizens of Satellite Beach with honor, courage, and unwavering commitment. Their loss serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face each day in service to others.

Though 34 years have passed, their legacy endures. Their names remain forever woven into the history of our department, and their example continues to inspire those who wear the badge today. They are remembered with gratitude, honored with respect, and held close in the hearts of the community they served.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Last week, students at DeLaura Middle School celebrated their hard work and academic growth during the school’s Learning Gains Celebration! 🎉

This end-of-year event recognized students who improved their grades from the beginning of the school year and gave them a well-deserved opportunity to celebrate their success. Students enjoyed bounce houses, basketball games, dunk tanks, snacks, and plenty of fun with friends and staff.

Our very own Corporal SRO Tiffany Pendleton even volunteered to be pied in the face for the students! 🥧

Congratulations to all of the students who showed dedication, perseverance, and growth throughout the school year.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country and the freedoms we hold dear.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, we ask our community to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

As another school year comes to a close, the Satellite Beach Police Department would like to thank our incredible School Resource Officers, teachers, school staff, and parents for everything you do to support and guide our students throughout the year.

A special congratulations to the graduating seniors of Satellite High School! 🎉
We are proud of your hard work and accomplishments and wish you all the best as you begin this exciting next chapter.

🚧 IMPORTANT TRAFFIC NOTICE – JACKSON AVENUE CLOSURE 🚧

Beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Jackson Avenue will be temporarily closed from South Patrick Drive to Sunset Street for approximately four weeks as part of ongoing infrastructure improvement projects.

⚠️ Traffic Changes:
• No left turn from southbound South Patrick Drive onto Jackson Avenue
• Northbound right-turn lane onto Jackson Avenue will also be closed

✅ Access to the following locations will remain available via South Patrick Drive:
• DRS Community Center
• U.S. Post Office
• Dill Dinkers
• CubeSmart
• Curri Properties

Businesses on the south side of Jackson Avenue will remain OPEN during construction. Customers and visitors will be directed to park in the DRS parking lot and use a designated pedestrian walkway for safe access.

City staff and contractors will continue working closely with impacted businesses to minimize disruptions and complete the project as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete these important infrastructure improvements.

During this campaign, the Satellite Beach Police Department will be conducting enhanced traffic enforcement throughout the City with a focus on seat belt compliance and traffic safety.

“Click It or Ticket” is not about citations — it’s about saving lives. In 2022, 25,420 vehicle occupants were killed in crashes across the United States, and approximately half were not wearing a seat belt.

The goal of this campaign is to create safer roadways for all motorists by increasing seat belt usage and reducing serious injuries and fatalities involving unrestrained drivers and passengers.

Seat belts save lives. Please help keep yourself, your passengers, and others on the roadway safe by buckling up every trip, every time.

Three years ago, Retired Chief Brad Hodge started a meaningful tradition within the Satellite Beach Police Department by sending our Officer of the Year and next senior supervisor to attend National Police Week in Washington, D.C. to honor the fallen.

In 2025 alone, 109 law enforcement officers paid the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in the line of duty. Since 1786, 24,775 officers have given their lives in service to others, including Satellite Beach Police Department’s own Sergeant Ed Hartmann and Officer Philip Flagg, End of Watch May 31, 1992.

This year, Sergeant Triebell and Officer Erik Abrahamsen proudly represented our department and stood beside fellow officers from across the country to honor all who have fallen and the families they left behind.

We will take the watch from here, brothers and sisters.

The Satellite Beach Police Department safety booth included e-bike safety information, giveaways, and an opportunity for families to ask questions and connect with our officers.
