🚲⚡ HERE’S YOUR SIGN: SLOW IT DOWN.

Sidewalks aren’t racetracks.

In the City of Satellite Beach, when operating on a sidewalk:

🚲 Bikes and e-bikes may not exceed 10 MPH.
🚶 Pedestrians have the right-of-way.
🔔 Riders must give an audible signal before overtaking and passing a pedestrian.

So if you’re flying down the sidewalk at 20+ MPH, weaving around walkers, kids, or dogs...

Here’s your sign: 10 MPH means 10 MPH.

Slow down. Yield to pedestrians. Give them a heads-up before passing.

Share the sidewalk. Get there safely.

🛑 HERE’S YOUR SIGN: Our #1 vehicle vs. bike/e-bike crash? A vehicle stops at a stop sign, then turns right or left across the sidewalk — into the path of a rider.

Stopping is only step one. Looking is step two. 👀

Before turning, check the sidewalk BOTH ways for:
🚲 Bikes | ⚡ E-bikes | 🚶 Pedestrians

⚠️ Drivers: Florida law requires drivers emerging from a driveway, alley, building or private road to STOP before crossing the sidewalk and yield as required. — F.S. 316.125

🚲 Bicyclists on sidewalks have the rights and duties of pedestrians, and e-bike riders generally have the same rights and duties as bicyclists. — F.S. 316.2065 & 316.20655

Before you turn, take the extra second to check BOTH directions along the sidewalk. That one extra look could prevent a serious crash.

Your mom was right. Wear your helmet. 🚲
And yes, Dad… we know you told them too.

Florida law requires bicycle riders and passengers under 16 to wear a properly fitted and securely fastened helmet. This applies to e-bikes, too.

And just putting it on your head doesn’t count… the buckle isn’t decorative. 😉 Clip it.

🚲 Riders: Wear it. Buckle it. Every ride. Every time.

The first day is officially here! As students head back to the classroom, please give yourself a little extra time and help us keep everyone safe during the morning and afternoon rush.

🚸 Slow down and obey school zone speed limits.
🚌 Stop for school buses when required.
🚲 Watch carefully for bikes, e-bikes & scooters.
👀 Check crosswalks and sidewalks before turning.
📵 Put the phone down and stay focused on the road.
🚗 Expect extra traffic, longer lines and a little first-day chaos!

🚨 BACK TO SAFETY WEEK: HERE’S YOUR SIGN! 🛑

STOP means STOP — whether you’re driving a car, riding a bike, or riding an e-bike.

Florida law requires bicyclists and e-bike riders to obey applicable traffic laws, including STOP signs and traffic signals. City of Satellite Beach Ordinance also requires bicyclists riding on our streets to follow the duties imposed on vehicle drivers.

🚲 Riders: That STOP sign applies to you, too. It’s not a suggestion.

🚗 Drivers: Come to a complete stop and watch for bikes, e-bikes, and pedestrians before proceeding.

Satellite Beach students are heading back to school Monday! 🚌📚

Not sure when you’re required to stop for a school bus? In most cases, the answer is YES! Here’s a quick refresher:

🛑 Two-Lane & Multi-Lane Roads: Traffic traveling in both directions MUST stop.

🛑 Divided Highways (with a raised barrier or an unpaved median at least 5 feet wide): Traffic traveling behind the bus MUST stop. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction may proceed with caution.

School buses mean kids are nearby. Slow down, stay alert, and help us keep our students safe as they head back to school! 💙🚌

🎉 HAPPY 94TH BIRTHDAY, BOB BECKER! 🎉

We recently had the opportunity to celebrate the 94th birthday of former Satellite Beach Police Department Volunteer Bob Becker!

Bob has the incredible distinction of serving in three different branches of the U.S. military and dedicated 14 years of volunteer service to the Satellite Beach Police Department and our community.

Bob is truly appreciated for his quick smile, kind heart, and willingness to generously share his time and talents. We are incredibly grateful for his many years of service and dedication.

⚠️BACK TO SCHOOL TEMPORARY TRAFFIC PLAN⚠️

Holland Elementary School, DeLaura Middle School & Satellite High School

As we prepare to welcome students back to school, the City is implementing a temporary traffic plan to improve safety for students, parents, school staff, pedestrians, and motorists.

Please review the following important information before traveling through the school area:

🚧 Scorpion Court/Stinger Lane Gate

• The gate connecting Scorpion Court and Stinger Lane will remain closed.
• Stinger Lane will remain open.

🚗 Traffic Routes and Road Closure

• Whenever possible, please use Scorpion Court for entering and exiting the area.
• Jackson Avenue will be closed between Pineapple Street and Orange Street.
• Please use Scorpion Court or Magnolia Avenue as alternate routes.
• Motorists should avoid the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Orange Street whenever possible.

👮 Police Presence

You will see an increased police presence in an effort to maintain safe streets for pedestrians, bicyclists, as well as motorists. This includes additional crossing guards and patrol officers.

🗺️ Plan Ahead

Please review the attached traffic map for recommended routes, the Jackson Avenue closure, and other important traffic information before heading to school. Allow extra travel time, follow all posted signs, and use caution throughout the area.
