🚨 Dispatch here 👋 911 is for emergencies only 🚨

Calling 911 as a joke, hang-up prank, or for non-emergency reasons ties up emergency lines and dispatchers who may be trying to help someone experiencing a real crisis.

Every second matters when someone needs police, fire, or medical assistance.

Parents and guardians, please take time to talk with your children about proper 911 usage:

✅ When to call 911
✅ What information to give the dispatcher
✅ Staying on the line and answering questions
❌ Why prank calls and misuse of 911 are dangerous

911 should only be used for emergencies involving immediate danger, serious medical issues, fires, crimes in progress, or situations requiring urgent help.

Prank calling 911 could result in criminal charges and wastes valuable emergency resources that could delay help to someone in need.

Thank you for helping us keep emergency lines available for real emergencies and teaching the next generation how to use 911 responsibly ❤️ For non emergencies, you can reach dispatch at (320) 968-7201 option 1.

National Police Week:

It is a week to honor and remember our fallen Law Enforcement Officers.

It is also a time to recognize the brave men and women who continue to show up everyday to do this job with dedication and courage.

We are so thankful and appreciative of all of our police officers here in Sauk Rapids, we have a great crew. Their hard work never goes unnoticed. 🩵

We need people who are willing to continue to hold the line, who are willing to continue to protect and serve. It’s a job that comes with many challenges and sacrifices. We will continue to serve our communities, and we will unfortunately continue to see the tragedies that can occur with the men and women who show up everyday to do this job.

Those we have lost along the way will never be forgotten.

Happy Friday!

We wanted to let everyone know about the recent law update for school bus stop arm violation’s: Minnesota law on stopping for school buses has changed. You must now stop at least 20 feet from the bus whenever the red lights are flashing. The stop arm does not have to be extended. This update closes a loophole where drivers previously may have tried to “beat the arm” when passing a bus — a risky move that puts children in danger.

Slowing down and adding that extra caution will help make sure every child can travel to and from school safely.

The Sauk Rapids Police Department is partnering with ARXG to host the DEA's 30th National Prescription

Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sauk Rapids Government Center,
250 Summit Ave N.

Residents are invited to drop off unwanted, unused, or expired medications for safe,
anonymous disposal. Sharps disposal will also be available at this location.

Unused medications in the home are a real concern. The presence of excess medications increases the risk of accidental poisoning, drug overdose, and diversion: unused pills shared, offered, or taken by others.

During the October 2025 Take Back Day, more than 571,054 pounds of medication were collected, contributing to a cumulative total of over 20 million pounds gathered by the DEA since 2010.

Locally, the Sauk Rapids Police Department has made safe disposal available year-round through two drop boxes, one for medications and one for sharps, installed at the Government Center in October 2025. Since
those boxes were installed, residents have dropped off 726 pounds of medications and 426 pounds of sharps. The cost of destruction for both drop boxes is covered by ARXG, a Sauk Rapids-based company specializing in circular solutions for post-consumer waste, including medications and sharps.

Take Back Day extends that access beyond regular business hours. The event is free and drop-off takes only a few minutes.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators week.

We would like to take a moment to recognize all dispatchers for the amazing work they do every single day. They are the first people the community speaks to when they call 911. They truly do it all. They gather the information needed to give to the Officer's responding to the call. It's not just getting the information about what is going on, they also get other very important information that is needed to keep us as safe as possible when we arrive on whatever the call may be. Dispatch also gets all necessary resources needed for the call. They take care of the community, and they take care of us. We can't thank them enough for all that they do for us and the communities. What they do matters more than people realize. There are many times we can think of where dispatch has kept us safe by getting very important information and have helped people through some of the worst days of their lives. It isn't just the boots on the ground that help people through hard times. Dispatch does it first since they are the first person the public speaks to. They may not see what we see when we respond but they hear the tragedies. They feel the impacts of it just as we do.

If you see/ know a dispatcher please make sure to thank them, they often go unnoticed because the public doesn't see them, but they are so important.

A special thank you to the dispatchers at Benton County Sheriff's Office. We appreciate all that you do for us and the community.

We thank all dispatchers, not just today but every day.

"When seconds matter, 911 dispatchers are the ones who make them count."

We LOVE crumbl. Another amazing drop off from them… we appreciate it so much! However, we are gonna seriously start to gain a few extra pounds with how often we are eating these, maybe that’s the goal? We’re not sure but it won’t stop all the officers from eating every single cookie I’ll tell ya that much…

Benton County Sheriff's Office maybe if you’re nice enough to us today we will consider sharing the love!! 😬

Have a great weekend everyone!!
