495 people have been hospitalized.

Two have died — both in Michigan, both with significant underlying health conditions.

Federal officials say it is the largest outbreak of its kind ever recorded in the United States.

Georgia, Tennessee and Texas were added just this week.

And here is the part that matters even if your state is not listed: the recalled lettuce was distributed to 31 states. Illnesses are still being added as health officials interview more sick people.

WHERE IT CAME FROM

Investigators traced it to iceberg lettuce grown in central Mexico and processed by Taylor Farms de Mexico, one of the largest produce suppliers in the country.

Taylor Farms recalled all of it on July 17.

🔴 At Walmart — Marketside Iceberg Salad, 12 oz and 24 oz bags
🔴 At Walmart — Marketside Shredded Lettuce, 8 oz and 16 oz bags
🔴 Best-if-used-by dates July 18 through August 3, 2026
🔴 Foodservice — supplied to Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Sysco and other distributors

Those best-by dates have passed. FDA says it remains confident all recalled lettuce tied to this outbreak is off the market.

SO WHY ARE WE POSTING THIS NOW

Because the lettuce being gone does not mean the outbreak is over.

Illness onset dates ran from June 14 through August 15. People are still being identified and added to the count — it jumped by more than 500 cases in a single week.

And most people who get this never find out what it was.

Read this line from the CDC carefully:

Routine stool tests don't always screen for this parasite. You may need to request testing for Cyclospora.

That is the single most useful sentence in this entire story.

If you got sick this summer, went to a doctor, and got told it was "just a stomach bug" — you may never have been tested for the thing that actually caused it.

KNOW THE SYMPTOMS

🔴 Watery diarrhea, sometimes severe
🔴 Fatigue
🔴 Loss of appetite

Symptoms usually start about a week after infection, but can appear anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks or more.

Untreated, it can last from a few days to a month or longer. It is treatable with antibiotics — but only if it is correctly identified.

Stay hydrated. If your symptoms have dragged on, go back and ask specifically about Cyclospora.

CBS News found that before this outbreak, the FDA had last inspected Taylor Farms de Mexico seven years ago.

FDA staff are now inspecting and testing at the farm alongside Mexican government officials.

🚨Homemade Flamethrower CAUGHT ON CAMERA — Oklahoma City — Deputies Served an Eviction. He Answered With a 15-Foot Wall of Fire — and a Bomb Wired to a Car Battery.

Deputies went to an Oklahoma City apartment shortly before noon to serve an eviction order.

Housing Authority staff unlocked the door. It would not open.

Cables had been run to the door. An electric wheelchair was wedged behind it.

That was the first sign something was wrong.

Deputies force their way into a dark, cluttered apartment.

Seconds later a burst of flame erupts from a bedroom.

The sheriff's office says the fire traveled roughly 15 feet toward a deputy. He felt the extreme heat. He was not injured.

According to the incident report, the device was made from rows of aerosol cans taped together — butane lighter fluid and carburetor cleaner — with bare wires attached.

It was assembled out of hardware-store parts.

As deputies backed out, they spotted a car battery with wires running from it.

Then a second wired device near the front door.

"He's got it hooked up to the battery!" one officer shouts on the video.

"Everybody out! Improvised device! Get out!"

HOW IT ENDED

🔴 Residents evacuated from the third floor and nearby levels
🔴 Tactical team and bomb squad responded
🔴 Officers disabled the wires connected to the cans
🔴 Darron Dunn, 61, was removed from the apartment in his wheelchair and taken into custody

No deputies were injured. No residents were injured.

🔴 Assault and battery with a deadly weapon
🔴 Possession of an incendiary device or explosives
🔴 Obstructing an officer

These are allegations. He has not been convicted and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Authorities have not disclosed what led to the eviction order.

Eviction service is one of the most dangerous routine calls in law enforcement.

There is no warrant, no crime in progress, and no reason to expect resistance. Deputies knock on a door belonging to someone having the worst day of their life.

Most of the time nothing happens.

🚨 NATIONWIDE — A Database Entry Nobody Deleted Got a Mother Surrounded at Gunpoint Twice. Her Car Was Already Cleared the Second Time.

There are roughly 120,000 license plate readers operating across the United States.

They do not misread plates. They read them correctly and check them against whatever police put in the system.

Which means the accuracy of the camera is not what protects you. The accuracy of the paperwork is.

Here is what happens when the paperwork fails.

WHAT HAPPENED IN WISCONSIN

July 27 — Milwaukee police stopped Amber Newell near her home. Her significant other was in the car. So were an 18-year-old, a 12-year-old, and a 1-year-old.

Her car was towed and processed for evidence. It came back days later still carrying evidence stickers and fingerprint dust.

August 6 — Newell was on the interstate in Brookfield when a Flock reader flagged her vehicle as connected to a homicide investigation.

Officers surrounded the car with weapons drawn. Video shows a passenger with hands out the window.

Her car had already been cleared.

"I didn't go through this one time. I went through this twice," Newell said.

THE PART THAT MATTERS EVERYWHERE

The camera worked correctly both times.

Milwaukee police say an employee never removed the wanted-vehicle alert after investigators finished with the car. The entry stayed live in the national database.

MPD has called it human error, not a system failure.

There was no expiration. No automatic review. No second check before officers approached with guns drawn.

The alert simply sat there until a camera found it.

WHERE IT STANDS

Newell has retained civil rights attorney B'Ivory LaMarr. He says he is filing a notice of claim and hopes to resolve it without a lawsuit — but will file if he has to.

He says the department has acknowledged the mistake. He wants a fuller explanation.

No lawsuit has been filed.

Separately, thirteen Milwaukee alders have asked their police chief and oversight commission for tighter controls on the system. That request came one day before a suspended detective pleaded not guilty to allegedly running 20 illegal searches through it over six years.

Those charges are allegations. He has not been convicted and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Lindsey Barnett, 37, was dead.

Patrick told investigators his wife had been suffering from postpartum depression. He said she had been in a psychiatric unit. He claimed she had attempted su***de just the weekend before. He had an explanation for everything.

The evidence at the scene told a different story.

The next day, Patrick was charged with first-degree murder.

She told police her daughter had experienced depression before but had not exhibited any such symptoms recently and had never attempted su***de. 🚨 "THAT'S A GOOD WAY TO END UP DEAD": The Viral "Door Kick Challenge" Is Getting Teens Arrested — and It Could Turn Deadly.

There's a dangerous TikTok trend sweeping the country, and police everywhere are sounding the alarm. 📱🚪

It's called the "Door Kick Challenge" — teens run up to a random home, violently kick or bang on the front door, then bolt, filming the whole thing for social media clout.

It might sound like "ding-dong ditch." It's not. And the consequences are very real.

⚖️ TEENS ARE GETTING ARRESTED — WITH FELONIES
This isn't being treated as a harmless prank:
▪️ In Volusia County, FL, three teens face felony charges — deputies cracked the case partly thanks to a pink fuzzy mask caught on surveillance footage and later found in a teen's pocket.
▪️ In DeBary, FL, two teens were charged with felony burglary.
▪️ In Elk Grove, CA, police reported eight incidents in a single month — five juvenile arrests.
▪️ Cases have hit Pennsylvania, California, and states across the country.

Charges can include felony burglary, criminal mischief, vandalism, and trespassing.

💔 IT'S ALREADY TURNED TRAGIC
In one Florida case, a resident came home to find her door kicked in and her 3-year-old dog missing. The dog was later found dead near the road. This is what "harmless" can become.

⚠️ WHY POLICE ARE TERRIFIED
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood didn't mince words: "That's a good way to end up dead, especially in Florida" — pointing to the state's Castle Doctrine, which allows homeowners to use lethal force against perceived intruders.
