๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Three Men Gave Their Lives at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont Mesa East to Save 140 Children โ€”

๐Ÿ‘ฎ Here Is What They DidOn Monday morning, May 18, two teenage gunmen arrived at the Islamic Center of San Diego โ€” home to one of the largest mosque communities in California and the Bright Horizon Academy school, where more than 140 children were inside classrooms that day.Three men stood between those children and the shooters. None of them survived. Every single child did.Amin Abdullah, 51 โ€” Security Guard
The moment Abdullah spotted the two suspects running toward the mosque, he radioed his team to begin lockdown procedures and moved toward the threat. San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said Abdullah "immediately observed" the danger, engaged the shooters with gunfire, and drew their attention away from the entrance to the school. His daughter, through tears, said her father had become a security guard because "he wanted to defend the innocent." Chief Wahl called his actions "pivotal" in preventing far greater bloodshed. Without Amin Abdullah, the shooters reach the children in seconds. He did not let that happen.Mansour Kaziha, 78

โ€” Community Member
Known throughout the mosque as Abu Ezz, the 78-year-old shopkeeper was beloved by the children he served โ€” famous for quietly letting kids take candy for free when they came through his shop. When the shooting started, Mansour Kaziha did not run. He moved toward the gunmen, alongside Nadir Awad, and tried to draw them away from the school and into the parking lot. He and Awad died together doing it.Nadir Awad, 57 โ€” Community Member

Awad lived directly across the street from the Islamic Center. His wife is a teacher at the school. When he heard the shots, he didn't call for help โ€” he ran toward the danger. His son-in-law Mohammad Kaddoura told reporters: "He did not hesitate. He moved so quick to save anyone's life." Imam Taha Hassane said Awad "rushed to do something, to protect" โ€” and that he and Kaziha died together trying. The two shooters โ€” a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old from San Diego โ€” were radicalized online and arrived with a manifesto expressing hatred toward Muslims, Jewish people, the LGBTQ community, Black Americans, women, and both political parties. They recorded their attack on a live video. Both are dead. The FBI is investigating this as a hate crime. Hundreds gathered Tuesday night at a candlelight vigil to honor the three men who gave everything.Police Scanner Network covers active public safety situations and their aftermath across 21 cities.

โš–๏ธ BREAKING โ€” South Carolina Supreme Court Overturns Alex Murdaugh's Murder Convictions โ€” New Trial OrderedThe South Carolina Supreme Court ruled 5-0 today to overturn the murder convictions of Alex Murdaugh โ€” the disgraced South Carolina attorney convicted of killing his wife Maggie and 22-year-old son Paul at their Colleton County hunting estate in June 2021.

The court found the trial was tainted by the improper conduct of county court clerk Becky Hill, who was found to have made comments to jurors during the trial implying Murdaugh's guilt โ€” including telling jurors to "watch his body language" while Murdaugh testified. Hill later wrote and promoted a tell-all book about the trial, was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice, and pleaded guilty in December 2025.

She received three years of probation. The justices wrote: "Although we are aware of the time, money, and effort expended for this lengthy trial, we have no choice but to reverse."Murdaugh, 57, is NOT going free. He remains behind bars on concurrent state and federal sentences of 27 and 40 years for dozens of financial crimes โ€” stealing millions from vulnerable clients, including the families of people who died in accidents he was supposed to represent. But his two life sentences for murder have now been vacated. A new murder trial will be scheduled.South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson says his office plans to retry Murdaugh as soon as possible.๐Ÿ”ท THE BACKSTORY โ€” HOW WE GOT HEREAlex Murdaugh was not born into ordinary circumstances.

His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather served consecutively as the chief prosecutor of South Carolina's 14th Judicial Circuit from 1920 to 2006 โ€” nearly a century of unbroken legal and political dominance in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Alex himself became a prominent personal injury attorney, a partner at his family's law firm, and one of the most powerful men in one of the state's most rural and tight-knit regions. But underneath that polished surface, something had been rotting for years. On the night of June 7, 2021, Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and their son Paul, 22, were shot and killed at the family's Moselle hunting property in Islandton, South Carolina. Paul was killed with a shotgun at close range.

Maggie was shot multiple times with a rifle. Alex told investigators he had been napping at the main house, drove to the kennels when Maggie didn't answer her phone, and discovered their bodies.Investigators quickly became suspicious. Alex's alibi shifted. A critical piece of evidence emerged โ€” a Snapchat video Paul had recorded at the dog kennels just minutes before the murders, in which Alex's voice could be heard in the background. Alex had initially told police he hadn't been at the kennels that night. He changed his story. As investigators dug deeper, the financial crimes began to surface.

Murdaugh had been stealing from his own clients for years โ€” redirecting settlement funds meant for accident victims and grieving families into his own accounts to feed a secret opioid addiction and cover mounting debts. The total stolen exceeded $8.8 million. The law firm he had built his family's legacy on collapsed. He was disbarred. In September 2021 โ€” just three months after the murders โ€” Alex orchestrated a bizarre roadside shooting scheme in Hampton County, having a longtime family associate shoot him in the head so his surviving son Buster could collect a $10 million life insurance policy. Alex survived. The scheme unraveled immediately. He was charged with insurance fraud, among dozens of other financial crimes.

By the time his murder trial began in January 2023 in Walterboro, South Carolina, the case had become a national phenomenon โ€” true crime documentaries, podcasts, and books chronicled every twist. The six-week trial was one of the most watched in South Carolina history. The prosecution argued Murdaugh killed his wife and son to distract from the "gathering storm" of financial crimes about to destroy him. The defense argued the opposite โ€” that a man who had just committed murder would not have drawn attention to himself with a financial scandal days later.Murdaugh took the stand in his own defense, admitted to years of theft and addiction, and denied the murders.

The jury convicted him on both counts in under three hours on March 2, 2023. He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms. Now the convictions are gone. The retrial clock starts today.

๐Ÿ”ท WHAT HAPPENS NEXTAlex Murdaugh stays in prison โ€” the financial crime sentences alone keep him behind bars for decades. But the murder convictions are vacated. A new trial will be scheduled. The prosecution will have to rebuild its case from scratch โ€” this time without the tainted jury and with new scrutiny on how much of the financial crimes evidence will be allowed in.The Murdaugh family. The Lowcountry. The stolen millions. The murdered wife and son. It is not over.Police Scanner Network will post every major update as this case moves toward retrial.

โš–๏ธ Utah Mother Convicted of Poisoning Her Husband with Fentanyl Faces Sentencing TODAY โ€” on What Would Have Been His 44th Birthday

Kouri Richins, 36, was convicted in March of aggravated murder after a jury found she fatally poisoned her husband Eric Richins with fentanyl in their Kamas, Utah home in 2022. She also faces convictions for attempting to poison him on Valentine's Day โ€” ten days after taking out a $2.2 million life insurance policy on his life โ€” and insurance fraud.

While her husband lay dead, Kouri Richins published a children's book about coping with grief. Her phone searches told a different story โ€” including queries for "what is a lethal dose of fentanyl" and "if someone is poisoned what does it go down on the death certificate as."

Prosecutors are asking Judge Richard Mrazik at the Summit County Courthouse for life without parole. Eric Richins' 13-year-old son addressed the court: "I'm afraid if she gets out, she will come after me and my brothers."

Police Scanner Network will post the sentence the moment it is handed down today.
