UPDATE - Courthouse Access Remains Temporarily Limited Due to Water Leak
[Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan] — The Chippewa County Courthouse experienced a significant water leak over the past weekend, resulting in temporary restrictions to public access within the building. Only the Garden Level/basement and 1st Floor will be accessible on Monday and Tuesday, the 15th and 16th of December, as we continue to dry out the areas affected by the flood.
Operations remain ongoing with limited changes; however, certain areas of the Courthouse remain restricted while assessments and necessary repairs are underway.
Members of the public should be aware of the following:
• Access to some offices and interior areas may be limited.
• The building will be louder, and some areas may have extra equipment that will limit hallway space.
• Visitors may experience minor delays.
• The elevator is currently the only way to access the first floor. If you cannot use the elevator, please ask the Deputy to call the office you need to visit.
Chippewa County would like to thank everyone who responded in the early hours of Sunday morning, including our Corrections Officers who did the initial walk-through to confirm the problem and jumped into action to help wherever they were needed, Sault Fire, Sault Water Department, Cloverland Electric, Atlas Cleaning for answering our early morning call and responding right away, and last but not least the staff members who jumped out of bed and responded without hesitation. Thank you all so much for your help!
The situation is actively being evaluated, and additional information will be shared as it becomes available. Public safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of our constituents.
Individuals with business in the Courthouse this week are encouraged to conduct their business via email or phone, if possible.
Contact the Administrator's Office directly with any questions regarding access or accommodations.
