As some of you may know I am a fierce advocate for our u housed community. I have worked with other advocates to help our local cities and County find viable solutions to a growing crisis here ...my friend Robbie Powelson has been working feverishly to keep porta potties for a San Rafael encampment dubed "Camp Intergeity"
Through private funding he had been able to do just that until now..here is a rent update and how u can help.
"Robbie has been helping San Rafael find a solution to the homeless "problem" in a way that quiets the complainers and allows common decency and the rule of law to prevail. A win/win for everyone, just like in Novato. Here is the lastest report.
Camp Integrity has won a restraining order against the City of San Rafael, and will be existing indefinitely on the Mahon Creek Path in San Rafael. Currently, the two bathrooms and handwashing’s stations are costing around $610.30 a month. However there are incidentals, and last month the service cost $1197.15 because we had to reorganize the bathrooms on the path with the contractor using a small truck pump out service. This unexpected hit has put us in an unexpected bind for the next billing day on 12/6, and we need to raise $500 by our next billings date on 12/6. You can donate by contacting me or donating on our GoFundMe here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/encampment-mutual-aid-porta-potties-for-our-camp
The City has now proposed that Camp Integrity become semi-permanent encampment with over 56 campsites on the Mahon Creek Trail, and 12 on Anderson. You can see an attachment of the City’s plans in the attached PDF to this email.
Because the City insists on spreading people across the entire trail, we need more bathrooms.
Prices have increased because in order to keep the bathrooms monitored by camp leaders, we have paid for a truck pump out service with Honey Bucket where a smaller truck drives down the Mahon Creek Path to service the bathrooms.
This has allowed us to have to of our camp leads keep the bathrooms close to their camps for routine cleaning and monitoring. This is a necessary expense, because before we did this Honey Bucket was concerned about damage to the bathrooms and was considering taking out our fee waiver and charging us. Because we are utilizing the truck pump out service, the bathrooms have been kept in much better shape and we have overcome that issue.
Please donate, and if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this GoFundMe For the Holiday season or get in touch about helping with the ongoing fundraising process. The Bathrooms are here to stay and need the communities support!
