Just dropped!

Democrats’ new elections omnibus bill would open the door to costly challenges, administrative chaos, and prolonged uncertainty. Bottom line: it would make elections less safe and secure.

Hope for adoption tomorrow! A lot yet to do... the budget just dropped late this evening and our team will be working late to break it down for committee in the morning!

Yesterday I presented HR923 in committee to urge the Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC) to study ways to reduce licensure and regulation burdens on day care homes in Illinois.

This is an effort to find a solution to the unaffordable costs of childcare in our state that working families have to juggle. Finding ways to reduce the cost of daycares but increasing access and reducing burdens on home daycares is an essential part of a solution!

Two days remain in the spring legislative session.

Committees begin this afternoon, followed by session later today. The Senate will take up the budget first, which means we’ll have an opportunity to review the debate before it reaches the House.

There will be tax increases and democrat pet project spending. The budget will be called ā€œbalanced,ā€ but it will rely on fund sweeps, borrowing, diversions, and revenue projections that are exactly that—projections.

At a time when Democrats are talking about affordability, they have a real opportunity to help Illinois families by addressing the issues that are hitting kitchen-table budgets the hardest: skyrocketing property taxes, rising energy bills, and the everyday cost of living.

Our caucus may be in the minority, but we will continue to expose and oppose bad policy, work to improve legislation in these final days, and make sure your voice is heard in Springfield.

Illinois families deserve affordability, accountability, and a government that lives within its means.

We’re days away from the end of the spring legislative session, and Illinois families are still waiting for action on one of the biggest challenges they face: skyrocketing property taxes.

For seniors on fixed incomes and young families trying to build a future, rising property taxes make it harder to stay in their homes, save for the future, and put down roots in Illinois.

If my colleagues are serious about property tax relief, we need to start by keeping the state’s promises. That means fully funding local governments, protecting LGDF funding, and funding state mandates so costs aren’t pushed onto local property taxpayers.

House Republicans have solutions:
āœ… Protect and strengthen LGDF funding for local communities
āœ… Fully fund state mandates instead of shifting costs to property taxpayers
āœ… Provide meaningful relief for seniors, families, and homeowners
āœ… Increase transparency and accountability in government spending
āœ… Grow our economy with policies that attract jobs, investment, and opportunity
āœ… Expand the tax base, not tax rates

Property tax relief isn’t just about lowering a bill, it’s about helping seniors stay in their homes, helping families afford to raise their children here, and making Illinois a place where people want to live, work, and invest.

Let’s stop shifting costs and start delivering relief.
