Working Together to Keep Our Students Safe

Over the past couple of weeks, the Savannah Police Department, in partnership with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, has been conducting safety drills with schools throughout Hardin County.

These exercises are an important part of our ongoing commitment to preparedness and student safety. The drills allow law enforcement and school personnel to evaluate current procedures, receive valuable feedback, identify areas for improvement, and ensure established emergency protocols are being followed.

While these are only drills, the importance of the work is very real. Every exercise is approached with the same steadfast commitment: keeping our students, teachers, staff, and schools as safe as possible.

We are grateful for the continued cooperation of Hardin County Schools, school staff, students, parents, and our law enforcement partners. Strong communication, preparation, and teamwork are essential to building a safer community.

Preparedness today helps us be better prepared when it matters most.

Prepared Today for a Safer Tomorrow 🛡️

The Savannah Police Department and Hardin County Sheriff’s Department recently joined together at West Hardin Elementary School to conduct an intruder drill as part of our ongoing commitment to school safety and emergency preparedness.

While this was a training exercise, it provided an important opportunity for our officers and school personnel to practice their response, evaluate procedures, and identify areas for improvement. Officers received valuable feedback throughout the exercise and were able to provide feedback and recommendations of their own.

Training exercises like this help ensure that our first responders are prepared to act quickly, effectively, and professionally should an emergency ever occur. Preparation, communication, and teamwork are essential to keeping our schools and communities safe.

We appreciate West Hardin Elementary School for partnering with us and supporting these important training efforts. Our shared goal is simple: to be prepared, to continuously improve, and to keep our children, educators, and community safe.

Together, we train. Together, we prepare. Together, we protect.

We have been made aware that residents are receiving calls from a private/blocked number from someone claiming to be with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department.

The caller is telling people that they have missed a court date and may pressure them by:
• Telling them not to get an attorney involved
• Asking them not to hang up
• Claiming there will be consequences if they do not cooperate
• Providing personal information, including their current address, previous address, or information about friends/contacts, in an attempt to make the call appear legitimate

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

Please do not send money, provide financial information, give personal information, or follow instructions from these callers. Do not allow the fact that they know some of your personal information to convince you that the call is legitimate.

If you receive a call like this and are unsure about the status of a court case or any other legal matter, hang up and independently contact your local law enforcement agency or the appropriate court using an official phone number. Do not use a phone number provided by the caller.

Please share this information with family, friends, and neighbors—especially those who may be more vulnerable to these types of scams.

When in doubt, stop, hang up, and verify independently. 🚨

🚸 School Zone Speeds Are About Safety — Not Convenience

Reduced speed limits are put in place for one reason: to help keep our children safe.

Slowing down “a little” isn’t enough when you’re driving through an active school zone. If the posted reduced speed limit is in effect and a driver is going over that limit, they are breaking the law.

Please slow down, stay alert, and follow the posted speed limit. Those few extra seconds could make all the difference.

School zones are not the place to take chances. Our children deserve our full attention and care.
