🎨 Painting is officially underway at Magdalene House!

It's one of the best signs yet that this project is nearing the finish line. Since breaking ground this spring, Union Mission and West Construction Company have replaced the roof, rebuilt damaged flooring, and rewired and re-plumbed the entire home — and now a fresh coat of color is going up on the walls.

Magdalene House provides emergency shelter and wraparound support, including case management, food, transportation, childcare access, and counseling, for mothers and children experiencing homelessness, the fastest-growing homeless population in America. Last year, it gave 36 moms and 69 kids a safe place to stay for up to 90 days, with 98% moving on to stable housing of their own.

This renovation will add two new family bedrooms, renovate all eight suites with private bathrooms, and create dedicated kitchens, laundry rooms, common areas, and a computer lab: spaces built for healing, not just housing. Once complete, Magdalene House will be able to serve 10+ additional mothers and 20-30 more children every year.

We're so grateful to West Construction, the Kole family, and every partner making this transformation possible. Thank you for helping us build a place where Savannah's moms and kids can heal, rebuild, and grow together. 💙

In August, the Clothing Closet served 429 individuals, with one week alone reaching 119 people.

Here's what went out the door:

👖 496 pairs of pants
👕 960 shirts
🩳 103 pairs of shorts
👗 260 dresses and skirts
👟 210 pairs of shoes
🧦 562 pairs of socks

We also handed out undergarments, hats, belts, purses, sheets, books, water bottles, suits, pillows, and ties.

Every item helps someone start over with a little more dignity. Thank you to everyone who donates and volunteers to keep the Closet stocked.

Mark your calendars! Union Mission is proud to support Savannah RISE Job Palooza on Wednesday, September 2nd from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Enmarket Arena.

This is a huge opportunity for our community. More than 100 employers from across the region will be under one roof, and admission and parking are completely free. The first 300 job seekers who complete the event survey even get a free meal voucher.

We’ll be there as a resource for anyone looking to take the next step, and we’re bringing clients from several of our programs to attend. If you or someone you know is job hunting, this is the place to be.

See you there!

Every 1st, 2nd, and 5th Saturday morning, you'll find the SonRise Servers & Casserole Crew from Isle of Hope United Methodist Church outside Grace House, serving up warm food, drinks, and a lot of heart. 🙏

They're not doing it alone, either. A whole family of faith partners and community volunteers shows up right alongside them, week after week, to make sure our neighbors experiencing homelessness feel seen and cared for.

This is what it looks like to partner with people to end their homelessness.

West Construction Company’s interns spent time serving meals with us before wrapping up their summer, and we’re grateful for the extra hands and the good energy they brought. Thank you for choosing to spend part of your last days with us.

Our 2026 interns wrapped up their program by volunteering with Union Mission before heading back to school. Learning skills and experience at the job site and in our community. Proud of this group for closing out their internship with purpose, and grateful to Union Mission for the work they do.
