🚨 IT’S THE FINAL WEEK OF CLEAR THE SHELTERS! 🚨

And Cider would like to know what exactly you’re waiting for. 👀🧡

For the rest of this week, ALL DOGS have a reduced adoption fee of just $50 as we wrap up our Clear the Shelters campaign — which means this is a pretty perfect time to finally give a deserving dog like Cider her happily ever after.

At 4½ years old, Cider has spent far too long waiting for someone to choose her. She’s playful, dog-friendly, smart, great with kids who are comfortable around dogs, and comes fully equipped with confidence, sass, and plenty of opinions. 😂

And treats? Cider LOVES them. Maybe a little too much. She can get jumpy and grabby when snacks are involved, but that food motivation also makes her incredibly trainable. She’s smart, eager to learn, and ready for a family who will embrace her goofy energy, zoomies, and BIG personality.

There are only a few days left of Clear the Shelters, we want to help everyone who has thought about adopting, have the chance to with our adoption special - ✨ ALL dogs: $50 for the rest of the week!

Let’s finish Clear the Shelters with some HAPPY TAILS! 🏡🐾

One adoption. Twelve and a half years of love. ❤️ This letter arrived in our mailbox, and let’s just say…you might want to grab the tissues for this one 😭⤵️

Dear staff of the Humane Society for Greater Savannah,

I’m not sure if there’s still anyone there from March 2014, and I highly doubt you’d remember us. Still, I feel obliged to write on the off chance someone does.

On March 9, 2014, I walked to the dog kennels and immediately fell in love with a bashful, hopeful, wrinkly little tan pit mix named Ike. I had another dog at the time, and the moment the two of them met, they were the best of friends. The staff members were thrilled, since Ike hadn’t done much but snooze since he’d arrived at the shelter.

In fact, they’d almost given up hope that Ike would ever be adopted. He’d been featured on the local news as the dog of the month (or week) — usually a ticket to adoption the very next day. But, for some reason, no one took Ike.

So when Ike immediately perked up with my dog and I, it was clearly meant to be.

There was just a tiny problem: I was only 19. And my unit commander was out of the country and couldn’t write the letter I needed. And pit bulls weren’t allowed on base.

Normally, that would’ve ended the story. But whoever was working that day had a hunch. Under “age,” she wrote “21.” For breed, “lab mix.” And we got a random lieutenant to sign a letter we wrote.

I know it’s an improbable long shot, but if that was you… you have no idea how right you were.

Thank you. You gave me 12 1/2 wonderful years with the sweetest, most understanding, loyal, happy dog I could ever imagine. He survived cancer once but declined suddenly and was diagnosed with an inoperable, incurable brain tumor. We laid him to rest in his own bed, surrounded by the people he loved, and looking as lovingly as ever into my eyes as he passed.

So, thank you, whoever you are, for taking a risk on a 19-year-old Army kid. You saved 2 lives that day.

— Aaron

Aaron, words cannot express how much your letter meant to our entire staff. THANK YOU for taking the time to share your story with us and for giving Ike 12 1/2 years of love, happiness, and the very BEST possible life. 🐾🥹😭

Some days you just want to be treated like the princess you are…and if it takes dressing up like an actual princess, then Sable says, so be it. 😉

This one-year-old sweetheart is fully embracing her royal era, and honestly, we can't blame her. She has the sweetest personality, loves spending time with people, and is patiently waiting for the day her forever family comes to whisk her away from shelter life.

Princess Sable has the crown, the charm, and the royal good looks. Now all she needs is a kingdom to call her own.

Ready to give this princess the happily ever after she deserves? Come meet Sable at our Adoption Center! 🐾👑

Reposting this amazing video from boneshugsandharmony on TikTok! Katie is posting a dog that is need of a home every single day until she reaches 100k followers. So please - be sure to give her a follow 🎉

Dawn from HSGS is Day 40 and this is what Katie had to say -

“Dawn’s life changed in ways she never could have understood. At seven years old, she tragically lost the one person she knew as her family. Their elderly father then took her in and did his best to give her a place to land but eventually, his health began failing too.

And so Dawn found herself in a shelter, trying to make sense of another home disappearing.

You might expect a dog with that kind of story to be sad or withdrawn. But then you meet Dawn. She’s goofy. She’s affectionate.

She loves people. She makes these ridiculous little sounds. Does the cutest happy hops. And firmly believes that if there’s a lap nearby, it was probably put there for her. She’s a grade-A house potato who just wants to be close to someone.

Maybe that’s what makes her story so hard to think about. Dawn doesn’t seem to be asking for much. She just keeps showing up with this huge personality and all this love, despite having already lost so much. She may need to be the only dog in the home, because she’s happiest being someone’s whole world. After everything that’s changed in her life, I hope the next chapter is a little less about losing and a little more about staying.”

🧡🧡🧡

UPDATE! We found someone to help with the duckling. Thank you to everyone that shared this post and reached out people on our behalf. This is the best community! 🫶🏻

We had an unexpected (and very cute!) visitor arrive at HSGS this morning. Meet Puddles! 🦆

This little duckling was brought to us by local police after being found near the road and almost being hit by a car. With wildlife centers closed today, our team has been reaching out to wildlife rescues, rehabbers and other contacts to find the right place for Puddles, but we haven’t had any luck just yet.

So, we’re turning to our community. We’re hoping to connect with an experienced wildlife rehabilitator or someone with the proper habitat and experience to care for a baby duckling who may be able to help us out today.

If that’s you, or you know someone who may be able to help, please email [email protected]. And feel free to share so we can get Puddles into the right hands. 🦆💕
