First, we serve.

Before she ever stepped onto a college yard, Our International President and CEO, Charletta Wilson Jacks, was a little girl in an elementary school classroom - and yesterday, she went back. Returning to her own elementary school, she read with students and carried the heart of Target 1: Educational Support & Advocacy - advancing educational excellence and creating equitable pathways to learning, leadership, literacy, and lifelong achievement. Because promoting literacy and academic success from cradle to career starts exactly here: one classroom, one book, one child at a time.

And she’s not stopping at the schoolhouse door. Supreme on the Yard is taking that same message to HBCU campuses across the country - showing students that the sisterhood who taught them to read will cheer them all the way to graduation and beyond.

From the classroom to the yard - the lesson is the same. When our sisters lead, communities rise. 📚💗💚

We were privileged to have The International President, Charletta Wilson Jacks join us for their Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Literacy Event and Learning initiative, where she read to our students alongside undergraduate and graduate members. Seeing our young learners engaged, encouraged, and inspired was a beautiful reminder of the difference literacy and mentorship can make.

This 30-minute hands-on program introduced students to the incredible life of David Drake, a 19th-century enslaved man who used his talent as a potter and writer to leave his mark on history. Students learned about David Drake’s life, listen to the story of Dave the Potter, created their own clay pinch pots, and practiced writing poetry.

A Special Literacy Celebration at Hodge Elementary School!

Hodge Elementary School is honored to welcome Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® International President & CEO, Mrs. Charletta Wilson Jacks, for a special literacy engagement this week.

This visit holds particular significance for both our school and the Savannah community, as Mrs. Wilson Jacks is a proud former student of Sarah Mills Hodge. During her visit, she will meet with faculty and staff to reflect on the rich legacy of Hodge and the impact of education on future generations.

Mrs. Wilson Jacks will also spend time reading with students in a Pre-K classroom and a first-grade classroom, inspiring young learners through the power of literacy and lifelong learning.

We are proud to celebrate this meaningful homecoming and grateful for the opportunity to showcase the excellence, tradition, and bright future of Hodge Elementary School.

Dear Hodge Families, Students, and Staff,
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible outpouring of love and support shown for Emilee Day and her family.
Because of your generosity, we were able to raise an amazing amount of money and present the donation to Emilee's mother as they continue this difficult journey toward healing. Your kindness, prayers, encouragement, and contributions have reminded us what it truly means to be a Hodge family.
We were especially proud to see everyone showing their support by wearing their Stitch shirts and the colors of purple, pink, and light blue. The hallways were filled with love, unity, and hope as our school community came together for a cause that is so close to our hearts.
While we celebrate what we have accomplished together, Emilee's road to recovery is still a long one. Donations are still being accepted for anyone who would like to continue supporting her family during this time.
We are also happy to share that visitors are welcome to visit Emilee. Since she is receiving care at a children's hospital, well-wishes and visits from friends and supporters are welcome as she continues her healing journey.
Thank you again for every donation, every prayer, every kind word, and every show of support. Together, we demonstrated the strength, compassion, and love that make our school community so special.
We showed up, we showed out, and most importantly, we showed love.
💜
