"The Savannah Police Department K9 Unit is mourning the loss of K9 Dooly who served the citizens of Savannah from 2015 until his retirement in 2021. During that time Dooly faithfully worked alongside his partner Corporal Ben Ferrero and was responsible for nearly 450 arrests and 15 physical apprehensions of dangerous criminals. Doolyβs selfless work helped keep his fellow officers safe during his time as a patrol dog and as a member of the SPD SWAT Team.
Dooly was the face of the SPD K9 Unit during his tenure, appearing in multiple TV interviews, on display at special events including parades and career days, and of course on Facebook where he was regularly seen adorning reindeer antlers for Christmas or even bunny ears for Easter.
We are thankful that he got to spend his 5 years of retirement at home with Corporal Ferrero and his family enjoying life to the fullest, chewing Kong bones and digging holes in the yard. We are grateful for his service and continue to aspire to live up to his lasting legacy of K9 LEADS THE WAY."
