Andrew County is located in the northwestern portion of Missouri and consists of a 435-square-mile area. The county has a population of approximately 18,000 residents. The county seat is Savannah, where the courthouse, sheriff's office, and other county government offices are located. Andrew County was officially founded on January

29, 1841, and named after President Andrew Jackson. The county is agriculturally-centered with several small towns located throughout. Several thousand acres of land are owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation and serve many hunters in search of white tail deer. While providing the highest degree of law enforcement, we strive to serve Andrew County by earning the public's trust through integrity, respect, character, and commitment to our job. The Andrew County Jail is located 400 East Main Street in Savannah, Missouri. We have a total of 6 cell block areas, 3 maxium security holding cell areas, 2 lower risk holding areas (Trustee and Work Release Inmates) and 1 cell block to hold subject being detained for investigation of a crime. The Andrew County Jail is also equipped with 1 isolation cell and 1 medical cell, which is for high risk detainees who need additional supervision. In addition to Andrew County inmates, we also hold detainees for the City of Savannah, Country Club Village, Clinton County Sheriff's Office, Independence Police Department, Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office, and Holt County. On occasion we will have a prisoner from another county awaiting extradition, transfer, change of venue on court case, or an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer. The jail is open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Our jail staff is always on the move in making certain all our duties and obligations are carried out.

ROADWAY SAFETY ALERT

The Andrew County Road and Bridge Department and the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to use extreme caution while traveling on Andrew County gravel roadways.

Due to the large amount of rainfall we have received, and with additional rain possible throughout the weekend and into next week, we have experienced several roadway washouts and drainage tube failures. These conditions have created large openings in some roadways, making travel dangerous. We also have several roads with water still flowing over them, and additional flooding may occur with continued rainfall.

Please use caution while traveling and remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle off the road.

If you encounter roadway damage, washouts, flooded roads, or other roadway hazards, please report them to the Andrew County Road and Bridge Department at 816-324-4012 or contact Andrew County Dispatch at 816-324-4114 and press 1 for Dispatch. Prompt reporting helps ensure the appropriate crews can respond as quickly as possible.

The Sheriff’s Office was busy throughout the night responding to numerous reports of flash flooding across the county. We worked to reach all affected areas; however, some locations could not be safely accessed until the floodwaters receded.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during these challenging weather conditions. Please slow down, stay alert, and make safety your priority.

Everyone stay safe.

🚨 Weather & Road Safety Update 🚨

From the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office

Please avoid the Fillmore area due to significant storm damage. Several city streets and state highways currently have trees, power poles, and power lines down, making travel dangerous.

Deputies are working alongside multiple fire departments and first responders to check on residents and help clear and reopen roadways as quickly and safely as possible.

We are also receiving reports of storm damage in the Bolckow area.

If you encounter downed trees or power lines:
• Stay away from them
• Do not attempt to move debris or lines yourself
• Report hazards to your local law enforcement agency or emergency services

Please use caution if you must travel tonight and allow emergency crews room to work safely.

During National Police Week, I want to personally thank all of our deputies who work tirelessly each and every day to keep the citizens of Andrew County safe. These men and women go above and beyond the call of duty, often missing holidays, birthdays, ballgames, and special family moments so they can serve and protect our communities.

Law enforcement is more than just a job it’s a commitment to service, sacrifice, and dedication. I could not be more proud of the deputies who wear the badge for Andrew County and the professionalism and compassion they show daily.

I also want to give a special shout-out to K-9 Harry, who is always ready and willing to take a bite out of crime.

Please join me in thanking all law enforcement officers for their service and sacrifice during National Police Week. Stay safe, and thank you for supporting those who protect and serve.

During National Correctional Officer Week, I want to personally thank the men and women of our Correctional Staff here at the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office.

As Sheriff, I see firsthand the work that goes on behind the scenes every single day. While the public often sees our deputies out on patrol, our detention officers are the ones who keep order and maintain safety inside our facility. They are the backbone of our operation.

They handle difficult situations with professionalism, treat those in their custody with respect, and ensure the safety and security of everyone who enters our jail—from inmates to staff to those attending court. Their work is demanding, often unseen, and absolutely essential.

I’m proud of each and every one of you and grateful for your dedication to this office and to the citizens of Andrew County.

Thank you for all that you do.

Today, April 23, 2026, Avenue City School was placed in a brief soft lockdown as a precaution while our School Resource Officer investigated a reported threat.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the situation stemmed from an ongoing issue involving middle school students making harassing phone calls and pranks to an individual dating back to the beginning of 2026. There was no active threat to students or staff.

We want to remind parents and guardians to please speak with your children about appropriate phone use and online behavior. What may seem like a harmless prank can quickly escalate into serious consequences.

This incident highlights the importance of having School Resource Officers in our schools, ensuring the safety and security of both students and staff through quick response and thorough investigation.
