πŸ¦πŸ› Happy Mother's Day from us at the Montezuma Audubon Center! πŸ¦πŸ›
Sometimes it takes a village. Barn Swallow mothers get help from other adults for nest-building, incubation, predator defense, and brooding. Older siblings and "cousins" will often help feed insects to the chicks. Look out for Barn Swallows building nests right now on the sides of buildings and rafters in sheds and barns (shocker!). Learn about Barn Swallows and other contenders for the "Bird Mom Awards" at the Audubon article below!

πŸŒŽπŸ’™πŸŒ Show our planet some love on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22nd, this year at our volunteer MARSH! woody invasive removal workday at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. Volunteers will assist center staff in digging up woody invasive plants including but not limited to buckthorn, honeysuckle, multiflora rose, Autumn olive, and more (probably)! Different roles will be available for a variety of participants such as digging up shrubs, pruning back branches, dragging out pulled plants, and flagging new plants to be pulled. The spaces that will be cleared will be restored with native plants to promote pollinators. The workday will begin at 9am and wrap up at 1pm with a lunch provided by the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. Sign up at the link below! πŸŒŽπŸ’™πŸŒ

Can't make it on Wednesday? MARSH! is happening every week, including Saturdays! Check our events on our website for more info.
