The members of the Athens Township Police Department would like to thank the local community members and businesses for their continued support throughout the year. This support allows our organization to take on endeavors to give back and help when needed. Recently we were able to provide some back packs full of school supplies to students in the Athens Area School District. Without your generous support we would be unable to do programs such as this. The children of our communities are the future, and Thank you for helping make sure they are prepared to learn and expand their knowledge through this school year and those to come.

The Athens Township Police Department has recently been made aware of an incident that took place at the Sayre, Pennsylvania Wal-Mart on August 1st,2026, regarding a male taking inappropriate pictures of a group of minors.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: This is a reminder that all EAST bound traffic on Wilawana Road starting at Mile Lane Road towards Elmira St/ Route 220 is CLOSED and must follow the posted Detours, WEST bound traffic, from Elmira St/Route 220 only is OPEN across the bridge. Please follow all clearly posted detour and road closed signs and do not travel against traffic across the bridge.

Here's an update on the Wilawana Road bridge rehabilitation project between Mile Lane Road and the Route 220 interchange in Athens Township, Bradford County:

Starting tomorrow (Monday, March 30), construction of access roads, work platforms and removal of portions of the existing deck and portions of the abutment backwalls/wingwalls will continue.

Wilawana Road eastbound lane will be closed between Mile Lane Road and Elmira Street. A detour using Wilawana Road, Interstate 86 east in New York State and Route 220 south will be in place for eastbound traffic through the fall 2026.

Westbound traffic will be maintained in the work zone, and drivers will have access to Toziers Landing Park.

Work on the project includes reconstruction of the concrete pedestals, wingwalls and backwalls, removal and replacement of the bridge deck and barrier, repair and painting of the steel beams, approach work, and paving.

Additional work includes rehabilitation of the bridge deck carrying Wilawana Road over Route 220, base repairs, milling and resurfacing on Wilawana Road and installation of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at the Route 220/Wilawana Road interchange. Work on the project is anticipated to be completed in the fall of next year.
